Hey guys,
I've been reading justcommodores.com.au for a while, it's been so helpful for any and all advice in relation to changing over parts, installing stereos and even little things like rewiring a trailer at one stage!
Now I need some more help. This is my first post.
I own a VT Commodore, 2000 model, Olympic Edition. I'm looking to get a little extra performance out of it, without going too overboard. My friends are all telling me to "get a fully sick supercharger brew" but they're all stuffin' around.
So far, I'm looking at installing pacemaker extractors, some heat shields, a cold air intake, some high ratio rockers and one of those el cheapo performance chips.
Can anyone tell me about their experiences with these parts, and do you guys have any suggestions as to some other mods I can make to my car to get it sounding good, running well yet without having to sell a kidney?
Cheers.
You seem on the right track with your thinking (except for the heat shield, they do nothing).
MACE have got some good stuff as far as rockers and air intakes go and they do plenum spacers and manifold insulators too.
Id be wary of an el cheapo chip, some can do more harm than good but there are still some good ones out there, just be careful
as monkey said have a look in the MACE section in the sponsors thread theyre the ones to talk to about v6 mods, also a set of diff gears will make it a bit more pokey aswell
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated.
I've heard the name Dr. Bob around the forums in terms of what to look for in memcals and ECMs. Any advice on price for his services or the services of others?
Also, could you explain what "a set of diff gears" is. I'm a computer tech, not a mechanic unfortunately. What sort of benefit would this give me?
Cheers again!
Changes the final drive diff ratio inside of your differential, the "shorter" the diff ratio ie, 3:9.1 means you will have more accelaration, but less top speed. Shorter diff gears will affect your fuel bill as well, especially if you do lots of highway kms.
i dont think dr bob is still on the forums? usually him, delcowizard, or greenfoam are the ones to talk to about mail order tunes
