Hi guys, I bought a used VT equip 1999 model and recently the car won't start when I turn the key, I have to use a wire on the fuse under the bonnet to start her and then take the fuse out to turn her off.
Do you think it the fault of the mechanical structure inside the wheel, and that it will need replacing? If so, since this is my first car, can anyone help me out with what I should be quoted from a local electric motor mechanic?
So are you connecting the starter motor positive to the battery to start it? If so, then yes it sounds like the barrel is farked. Take it to an auto elec to have a look at it.
Yeah the barrel was farked. Just so you might get an idea it cost me $187. Labour cost $115 and the part was $55. The rest was gst.
Apparently when I start the car I was to rough and it chipped away the part.
same thing happended o my series two commodore , new ignition barrel then relised it still wouldnt start and the ignition switch was stuffed .. wasnt to happy but although i paid $55 for a new barrel and $35 for a switch plus key being recoded $170 smackers all my central locking was working again
