    Default DIY shift kit ?????

I'm thinking about buying a stage 2 transgo shiftkit and a corvette servo for my vx, v6 and i was just wondering if anyone has tried it themselvs and if you found it hard to do.

Also what is it like driving with a stage 2 shift kit installed.. if its going to drive like crap I probably wont do it
BTW i have done several searches on shiftkits and none of them really answered my questions )

    Cheers.

it wont drive like crap, dependent of what you call crap
will just make your shifts firmer, as i understand it a corvette servo will be firm enough you wont need a shift kit

If it isnt tuckin, it must be suckin

I like the idea of firmer shifts, its just that some people say that there 'neck snapping' :P

But yeah might be a good idea to start of with a servo first, looks a hell of a lot easier to do aswell.

lol, for them to be neck snapping i think you might need a bit more power than your ecotec has,,, however i understand exxageration plays a big role in decission making these days,
go with the shift kit mate it'll be great, and the corvette servo will only help,,
however i can't tell you if it's a DIY type of job or not

Shiftkit firms/tightens up the shifts, ergo- youll know when it changes gears rather than the smooth slow gear change you have at the moment.

It's probably not DIY, there is nothing from stopping you though. I think a stage 2 is jut some adjustments and new holes (and some other goodies) in the valve body, which is accessable without taking the trans out. its pretty precise and incredibly clean work though. Get anything in the valve body and your trans just wont function properly. A hair can make such a difference.
A corvette servo u can put in yourself, its just a big bastard circlip and a seal to get the original one out, and reverse to put the 'vette servo in.
Following the supplied instructions to a 'T' though.

May be easier to get a trans place to do it for you. Trans work is precise work.

shitkits FTW :-D i wouldn't do it myself i got mine with the gearbox from craigs autos, the shifts are nice and firm! enough to spin my 20s when hitting second and chirping 3rd ... but that's with an ls1, not an ecotec

You can also get the auto trans shift times shortened and the shift firmness adjusted in the memcal settings..I have played around with the auto transmission part of the tune in my VS V6 and I have the trans shifting a hell of a lot better than how holden had it set,the auto trans even runs slightly cooler now too.Of course this is not going to compare to a full on shift kit,but it does speed up and firm up the shifts pretty good for the standard auto box,and it cost me nothing which is the best part....

Ive got an "XU6 chip" which is basically just the shift point sharpend up. Ive had several people ask if its shift kitted because of how firm it shifts and the way it kicks down a gear a bit more sharply. I would say it reduced Overall Commodore Auto Transmission Gayness Factor (OCATGF) by 10-15%

yeah that does work but it still doesnt have the clamping pressure of a servo so it will proberly wear it out alot quicker

I got a Transgo stage 2 shift kit + corvette servo in my VX v6, I was told by a few transmission places when i got mine put in to never put a corvette servo in WITHOUT doing it along with a shift kit. It apparently will wreck the gearbox quiet quickly, The shift kit makes the box alot stronger and be able to handle the corvette servo.
I got transgo stage 2 shift kit + corvette servo installed for $370 about 3 months ago, not that expensive to get the 2 installed.

Installing a Corvette Servo into your 700R-4

Shift kit does not physically make the box any stronger.
Increases line pressure and enlarges fluid ports for faster, firmer shifts.

Alright, so does that mean the servo can wear out the Gbox even with a shift kit ?

    Definetly not a problem lol

also does anyone know any good transmission mechanics in melbourne ill give them a call and get a price

Servo is there to provide extra clamping force, it can only wear on the bore where it goes
