    Question Our VX Acclaim

It's been years since I owned my VP SS and now I'm back. Ok the garage isn't quite as exciting, BF XR6 and Pontiac Firebird but i've got plans for a VY or VE SS.

Just bought the missus a stock as a rock VX Acclaim so I'll no doubt be harassing you fine people for info/ideas etc.

No OTT plans for this one as it'll be a family taxi so to speak but I haven't owned a car yet that hasn't been personalised.

So far the missus is at me for wheels, boot spoiler, extractors, exhaust, tint......the usual suspects!

    My first query:

I want to replace the current head unit with something that has Ipod connectivity/Bluetooth handsfree and also allows the steering controls to be used. Any ideas on what is compatible?

Do the VT SS Grille inserts fit this model? They look to be the same size. I'm not aiming for an SS lookalike just the honeycombe grille inserts do nothing for me.

    Thanks

Morning mate, the h/u can be replaced with virtually any aftermarket one as the double din size of the original allows for it. If you get a single din, it is a good idea to buy a bracket for it. However it's also worth buying and installing new speakers as well, it's certainly worth it.

RYDA.com.au - Great Prices on Car Audio, Mobile Phones, Digital Cameras and GPS Navigation is a good place to start.

Not sure about the SS inserts, but I think they would fit.

    Thanks for that.

Looking at the Pioneer MVH-8250BT HU.

Will look into speakers etc down the track. Just need the basics for the missus at this stage. I'm sure the mod bug will bite hard and I won't be able to hold back without getting stuck into it.

VT and VX are different size grilles. If you want straight up and down grille inserts use inserts from a VX Series 1 Executive.

Pretty sure you should give me your chrome accented grille pieces if you don't want them??
VX2 Executive Sedan - 3.8L Auto (for now)
VT SS Sedan - Supercharged V6 Auto (Genuine L67 SS)
VN SS Sedan - 5.0L 5 Speed Manual (Currently Balga spec waiting for panel and paint)

Yeah I saw an Executive in the parking lot so ordered a set of those.
They aren't real chrome, more silver paint but if you want them you can have them!

Ok it's a 1988 Pontiac Firebird, was a daily driver until recently and now i'm getting stuck into it a little more. I've replaced the suspension and bits and other pieces. Bit of a work in progress alas I will be selling it in the not to distant future. Garage is not big enough for 3 cars and I don't get to drive it and enjoy it that much anymore so might as well go to someone who is willing to enjoy it.

I seriously must have bad luck! Picked the VX up yesterday, went to do the school run and almost got rear ended at high speed due to a local electician who decided it would be a great idea to bury his head in his mobile phone! Fk me!! People like this deserve to have the book thrown at them!!

Fortunatley I had space to move out of the way. The missus wouldn't have been happy if i'd had to get a cab home and tell her that her car was on a tow truck somewhere!

Is there a fix for the aerial sticking? I'll get stuck into it this weekend and try lubing it etc.
The stalk doesn't look bent although when I take a closer inspection I may find that it is.

looks good mate same colour as my missus car....for a cheap head unit you cant go past a pioneer you can get ones from as little as 200 bucks with blue tooth usb and ipod connection get your self some pioneer 6 x9s and put them in the parcel shelf lose the rear door speakers also buy the speaker grill cover for the parcel shelf i did this for my wifes car at xmas all up cost me just a smidge under 300 from jb hifi they also sell the speaker grill covers...id lose the rear spoiler to me it looks cleaner...get her lowered (the car that is lol) about 400 bucks throw some wheels and tyres on it depends on which wheels but you can pick up some decent wheels and tyres new for around the 1000 bucks mark.....She should be happy about it all but then again its a woman there never happy lol

Never a truer quote spoken! Yeah she wants wants wants.....ah well. The boot spoiler is more so to let her see where the boot ends or she'll back into the shed again! I like the cleaner look also but it's hers so i'll throw one on eventually. Yeah wheels will also be done.

    Cheers.

Ok some progress since my last post and a question.

Fitted an SS boot spoiler and a set of 18" chromies so she's happy. Got some other silver vents etc fitted also.

Now that the spoiler has been put on, the boot is obviously heavier. Does simply changing the boot struts to "SS" (hopefully heavier duty) make the boot closing a bit lighter?

    Cheers in advance.
