hi can anyone tell me how i can change my wheel bearings in my vt.... can i do it myself or should i get someone else to do it...... i am pretty good with tools just dont know how hard it will be.........
thanks guys...
Do it yourself. A gregorys service manual will be the best $40 you ever spent. It will pay itself off many times over
Raise Car
Remove wheel
Remove caliper
Remove disc
Unbolt bearing unit cap screws
Clean
Bolt on new bearing unit
Buy them from Autobarn and the like.
Recommended to get new bolts from Holden too
The front wheel bearings are located inside a sealed hub unit and once the bearings are stuffed, you have to buy a complete new hub assembly as the bearings arent replaceable..I paid $180 each for my VS ones from the local holden dealer, some places wanted $480 each!!!..There are supposed to be cheap "chinese made" hubs getting around, stay away from these as they fail quickly and dont comply with our ADR's..
and don't for get there are abs wheel bearings and no abs wheel bearings !!!
Also if your using the same disc rotors make sure the inside surface that contacts the hub is free from any rust and dirt that could cause them to sit on the hub incorrectly as it will cause brake shudder.
there are several international standards bearings the actual bearing would probably be of a standard dimension and as long as the manufacturer complies and is quality assured they should be OK.
