    Default VT Commodore self combustion?

Hi im the late owner of a vt commodore that decided to set itself on fire.. I hadnt drive the car for 6 hours leading up to the fire and was wondering why my car would have done that.. the most affected area was the front righthand side of the car.. i have a subwoofer installed but the cables for the sub were unaffected..
    here are some photos..

Sorry for your loss and probably stating the bleeding obvious but looks for sure like an electrical fire. Damaged wiring in that area. I would have thought fuses would prevent it happening but apparently not? Was the wiring for the sub fitted with a fuse? Is that it that I see coming off the battery terminal back past the cruise control? Anyway, my guess is wiring fault.

Holy crap mate!!! Does look like it was somehow a wiring fault, if that's all the wires fused together on the main body loom I can see there.

There must have been a fuse that was way to big for a circuit fitted somewhere (or everywhere). That is brutal mate.

    Insurance?

I agree with Burnout124 it is exactly what I spotted too, My dad's vt used to leak at the return line on the Fuel rail, Even after replacing everything, after couple months it'd start to drip. So I rekon it'd be something like that.

    Cheers

Possibly, but isn't that burnt wires there running along the firewall towards the drivers side?

yeah so I'd say major electrical fault, likely the wrong fuses were in. did you ever replace a fuse with the wrong one?

The fuel from a leaking injector cant really light up on the exhaust 6 hours after driving. After about 1 hour the exhaust is only warm. i would say electrical fault of some kind.

that sucks major, how long have you had the car and what workshops have done work on it? it may not have been you but I reckon there was definitely the wrong sized fuse in somewhere. Any idiot can put the wrong fuse in, still turns the circuit on and it's all good until there's a short.

If it had started in the wiring on the drivers side, why would the engine cover over the throttle body
be so badly melted and not on the drivers side ??

Pretty sure thats a Berlina too.... What a shame. Nobody would buy that and put the time in to rewiring it and getting it going again it will be a parts car for sure.

sorry for you loss there mate...that sucks...i know that in a fire where the flames were at its intensity this is probably where the fire started as it has been burning the longest. looking at your car id say its the drivers side around the fuse relay near the strut tower if you look at your outside guard and bonnet you can clearly see where the heat was at its intensity the other side of the car has just melted because of the heat and the flames coming off underneath your bonnet...looking at your sub wire where you have the fuse it could of had a small nick in it exposing some wire shorting it out... as it looks like the wire is completely exposed meaning the insulator was completely burnt off behind the fuse like the exposed wiring on the firewall but who knows im guessing i know a lil bit about that sort of stuff but im not an fire investigator...anyway its bad luck mate i hope in the end it all works out for you.
the good thing about getting older....more toysthe bad news more headaches
