G'day guys, can someone please help me to determine what the easiest way is too determine which indicator stalk I need for my VX Berlina?
I need to replace the stalk because my cruise control will turn on, but not set, and my indicator lights are occasionally not flashing.
I rang a Holden Parts Dealer today, and they said that there are two stalks listed for the VX Berlina, and that they'd need the VIN number too determine which one is the right one, but then I checked online for prices, and there seems to be 2 listed alright, but they look completely different.
I was always under the impression that my VX was a series 2 Berlina, but the indicator stalk that's in it looks like the classic VR, VS, VT, VX indicator stalk (squarish in shape), and the pics I found of the series 2 indicator stalk look like the stalk that's used in the VZ/VY commodores. Which I find strange because I don't think I've ever seen a VX with that style of indicator stalk.
Can someone tell me if the 2 different indicator stalks for the VX look the same (I know there's a difference between the one with cruise control, and the one that doesn't), but does the series 2 stalk look completely different (like the VZ), or does it look the same as the Series 1 indicator stalk? Also is there a reason why they'd need my VIN to work out which stalk I'd need, because the only thing that I could think of was a different supplier that used a different plug?
Can anyone also please tell me how easy or difficult it is to replace a backlight globe for the climate control unit on my VX Berlina? One sides fine, but on the other side the backlight globe has blown and needs to be replaced. I just wanted to know if it's a job that I can do myself, as I've done similar fixes on my other commodores. I'd appreciate any advice on this.
It also looks like I've got an oil pressure switch that needs replacing, and I just wanted too know if it's possible to check the error code on LS1's manually (similar to how you can short a couple of pins on the ecotec engines), without using a diagnostics machine? I'm pretty certain that it's the oil pressure switch, but I wouldn't mind being able to check the error code too be certain before going and buying the part.
yes 1 is more bulky looking (sorter squarish) and 1 is a more cylender type stalk which were fitted in the VX series 2' onwards. either should still work the same
yes u can do the job urself on the climate control unit is simple tho do a search 1st and see wat u find theres mountans of info on how 2 do it here.

Thanx mate I really appreciate the info, and I get what you mean about there being plenty of info on here already about replacing that globe, I did a search on some keywords that I thought might take me to a thread on how to replace it, but I must've been using the wrong keywords or something, because I couldn't find anything that specifically showed me what I needed to know.
Thanx again mate
The search functions is not much chop. I find better result using the google search at the top of the page.

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
My VX Berlina is a Series 1, and when my stalk needed replacing a couple of months ago I bought a new one off these guys, Holden VR VS VT Commodore New Indicator Stalk / Switch
