over the last three months my vt v6 has started droping down a gear after going up hills and not upshifting again until i turn off the car then it runs fine any ideas would be a great help im told it may be a shift solinoid
i may be talking crap but 50,000ks ago i was told by my mechanic and by an auto trans specialist that i needed a new tranny cos mine was behaving in a similar (but not exactly the same )manner. I read a jc thread that suggested it may be simply a tuning issue so i thought what the hell, has to be worth a try so i went to my local dealer and bought genuine plugs, leads and a coil pack and "voila",fixed and it's still running as good as new.my car has now travelled 360,000ks and as i said in the beginning the last 50,000 has been since i supposedly needed a new tranny.just a point.i read a comment by "not an abba fan"a day or so ago where he said that simply testing your leads for resistance isn't totally accurate.i'd be keen for you to get an opinion from him cos he seems to really know his commodores.

When I light the nitro on my HQ 454 Monroe!
they loose 4th due to excess heat. AKA slipping transmission. Id start with replacing the oil/filter in it. If its still dodgy possibly tighten the bands. or get a new one lol
bands?really. so how might they be adjusted?
if you are doing mass hills and/or some towing id recommend getting a transcooler as well
thanks guys i booked the car in for a gearbox service today will let you know if it fixes the problem
The band can be adjusted by using a longer apply pin, this is the only method.
i wonder if i'm the only dumbass that has believed his mechanic who's been servicing the auto trans in our 2 vt's for years (@ $185 a pop ) and has had me convinced that there were no adjustments possible. that's not to say that those of us who don't know what we're doing should suddenly begin playing around with with a band adjustment or that in most instances one is even necessary but it's still good to know.thanks mate.
so i have spoken with the transmision specialist and he thinks im right its a solanoid problem tomorow hes going to test it and if it is he said im looking at $250 to fix including a service sound resonable to me
well we done a diagnostic got dtc 87 wich mean could be ####ing anything internatly ####ing great help that was looks like im up for a rebuild guys
ive found the problem 1 of the check balls was jammed in the valve body spacer plate so a replaced the plate put in a transgo stage 2 shift kit and now everything is running like a dream again hope this helps someone else out there
