really need help asap

hi all,i have a vx and at the moment its playing up very bad.its mis firing bad.at first when i took it to the mechanic he said it must be the spark plugs and leads.so i replaced them all.it was still there.so then he told me it must be the coil pack so i changed that and it was still there.the misfiring got worse.it is there constantly now in every gear(its auto).so then he told me it must be the harmonic balance.heres were it get f*$%ed,another mechanic told me it wouldnt be the harmonic balance otherwise the car wont start and he told me its got to be the valve spring getting stuck.because the pursure on the valve is alright.so i am ost and i really need help please

A missfire is mostly due to spark/fuel/timming... and not usually mechanical(Harmonic Balancer/Valve spring...LOL), so....

Injector cleaner in the tank + $20 petrol
Change the plugs after you use the tank of fuel.
Check the leads are in the right place/order.
Check that the coilpack are wired correctly in the loom.

If above fails..take it olden and get them to hook it up to a tech2 and diagnose for any errors... reason is then it could be the BCM/ECU problem.

the harmaonic balancer can have an effect on spark as the cas sits behind the harmonic balancer. I have had one go on me befor (become out of balance) and noticed at idle and low revs however once revs increased the problem generally got better not worse. Looking at the balancer at idle I could physically see that the balancer was moving about, once changed problem solved. Not sure if its the same in your case. Check the firing order - have you used the boot protecter (little round metal tube) as this can also cause a misfire.

does it only misfire on idle? or under load aswell?

do a self diagnosis and see if u get an EGR fault.

i have changed all the spark plugs,the coil pack.but the car keeps mis firing.and dosent stop.when driving the car it starts mis firing right away and when i excelarate it gets so bad that the engine starts to shake wildly.even in idle it mis fires so i really need help befor i buy another motor which will cost me $1100 pls help

Hi mate,

Have you changed your fuel filter? If this is clogged it can cause all the symptoms you describe. If the filter is good and the fuel line isn't blocked, check your EGR valve.

You haven't stated if you've checked for any error codes. This could help.

To be honest though mate, might be worth your while dropping into Holden and getting it chucked on a tech 2, you don't have to get them to fix the problem (unless they give you a good price), but at least you'll know what's wrong. Most likely it won't be too big a problem (touch wood, fingers crossed etc.).

search 4 VT/VX self diagnosis b4 u go see holden 2 put it on a tech 2 unit as u can pretty much do the same basic thing urself.
