Smile V6 non turbo power options?

Hey guys. just bought a vt acclaim.

I need some help to get some decnt power out of the ecotec. plus i really want a nice exhaust. loud beefy. but not overly drony at high speed.

As far as power goes ive heard alot of things, from headers, to ducting, rockers, throttle bodies. all advice is welcome.

Exhaust ive heard plenty fo things about taking of reso's and hotdogs going in the centre. so any advice is needed. thanks guys.

exhaust intake and tune. any more then that is pushing shit up a hill.

decent power can be very very easily squeezed out of a LS1 so just bide your time and save your cash and buy an SS off your p plates.

trying to say this in the nicest way possible so not to upset the V6 boys

Im one of these, but i have to agree with you, no matter how much money i throw at my engine a slightly tuned LS1 will leave me standing still to OP i would take DM's advice, trust me its shit waiting, but play your cards right and keep clean and you will be off your P's before you know it and will be enjoying more grunt from a bigger engine, save those pennies

i know i cant speak for you guys but id maybe look at selling your car and buying a 4 banger while you are on your P's (doesnt have to be entirely gay, just dont get a lanos) and then buying an LS1 on top of that, and just leave it in the shed and mod it. that way by the time you are off your P's you will already have your shit sorted.

I know this because i did it, albeit with a different car (I was forced into a 6 on my L's so i bought an EB XR6) and when i first drove my VX SS there was just no comparison, the accelation, top end everything, and its bone stock. with a intake exhaust and cam and tune you can push 400hp with an LS1, i think it would cost a fair bit of coin to get that out of an ecotec.

Because at the end of the day it is only a family car and a 6 banger at that. You can spend thousands for what 20kw gain? Definitely not worth it.

    QFT.

the main disadvantages of buying rockers, manifold spacers etc. is that you will still get handed chop by an LS1, that money would be better spent else. V6's just wont stay anywhere close to an LS1.

yup, if I could do my time again . i'd

1, buy a shit 4 cylinder banger for my first car . maybe put a set of wheels on it

    then

2, save all my dosh from modding my car and buy a v8 when im of the p's

learn from my mistakes , dont mod a v6 . its a waste

well just throwing it out there, isnt it illegal to mod 6s anyway.
you might only just race your mates but its seriously money down a drain, think about the looks on your mates faces when nigh on 400hp blows past them.

If your looking to beat them, a 3.7:1 diff ratio and shiftkit should do it - they will get you going better than any engine mods which as said pointless unless you boost them

Im with everyone else on this, iv spent way to much on my VN, rockers, 70mm, exhaust, suspension, manual conversion etc, an il never ever get that money back because the car is just not worth any real money these days.
Wish i realized that at the beginning but sometimes ya gotta learn the hard way.

At the end of the day tho i love my car, i built it they way i like it an i don't have any regrets about that but the money could have easily been saved an put towards something far nicer and far more powerful.

    Ultimately its your decision..

Its def hard though to take peoples advice like this, you love your car and just want to do everything to it lol. i know exactly how you feel, you should just save and supercharge it when your off your p's.

    You could do that. Or;
Listen to the people on here, we say these things for a reason. Most of us have been there done that. If you want to blow your money chasing bulk hp you can, or you can actually get it.

    FYI: LS1's are shit.
Every single one I've come up against has gone crying home to mummy before I even got out of third gear. (and this car barely owes me $16k).
I'm sure there are some good examples out there - but of the 2 I've driven, they were both crap. Gutless, floaty, noisy boats. (And one of these was a 297 Maloo)

    /2cents.

Let the kid mod his V6. If he can't spend coin on his VT & save up to buy a bigger/faster/stronger car over the 3 years (is it still 3years? maybe it's 4?) he has his P's then there is something dreadfully wrong.
