Recently just purchased this ute after it had been sitting around since november last year.
Initially the engine ran fine but just had a engine noise which just turned out to be a tensioner bearing which i replaced and i thought all was fine.
However last weekend i had taken the ute in for a full service, oil & filter, diff fluids, trans fluids, radiator etc and when i picked the car up it was making a loud squeeling sounds (similar to that of a belt slipping). i asked the mechanic who carried out the service what the story was and he said the A/C belt was on its way out.
That being said i replaced the A/C belt and Fan belt this weekend with genuine parts and low and behold the noise is still there and with the main cover off it was easy to identify it is coming from the motor.
initially i thought its just a noisey lifter so i attempted to put in some lifter sound reducer additive in but to no avail, it didnt do anything and the noise still remains.
any ideas as to what this could be? the noise sounds similar to a slipping belt and is quite loud - yet the car still runs perfectly fine and goes well. it just seems strange that after a engine flush the motor has started making this sound, maybe the wrong grade oil????
any ideas people?
tried holden to give me a rough diagnostic but they are next to useless unless i bend over and take a $115/hr arse raping.
would be good if you guys could bounce a couple of ideas off - i have viewed a few old threads but nothing seems to be a fix (without stripping it down and replacing the lifters etc)
i just dont understand how it can be fine one minute and then not the next
ask them what grade of oil they used?
to get some helpfull answers maybe post up a video?
Wouldn't be a water pump bearing on the way out, just a thought, or alternator?
take all the belts off and start the engine and see if the noise is gone then you will know if its a pulley or not
I think from memory i replaced the A/C belt first and then turned it over so i ruled out anything related to the fanbelt. but i will try it without all the belts on this weekend.
i still think the sound is coming from inside the engine itself but i hope to god i am wrong
will try this weekend and see how that goes
All fixed, it only took a bottle of budget repco lifter additive and the noise pretty much went away (still a slight noise - but hardly noticable)
