Thumbs up Vt/vx dash led removal/replacement/upgrade

    Hi guys,

I was going to get my dash done by ASR but since they have already been down to VIC this year i though it would look around and i have found a kit on ebay for $20 for my 3lv dash or $18 for a 1lv dash. On the 3 level it includes:
    - Speedo (high section)
    - Speedo (low section)
    - Tacho/Revs (all)
    - Fuel Gauge (all)
    - Temp Gauge (all)
    - PRND321 selector
    - LH Computer
    - RH Computer
    - Middle Computer

Commodore VT VX Calise Berlina Green LED Dash Light Kit | eBay. Also comes in blue/red/white

This is as easy as it can possibly get. Just remove the old bulb and put in the new one. So i decided to label all the bulbs so everyone knows which ones are where!! I know the above mentioned bulbs can be changed out no problems, but im wondering if can you just simply change out the 'power' globe with a blue LED same as supplied above and it will be blue? when i order and receive them i will try and let everyone kno hopefully it will work and ill order some more

Okay so here is the how too, whether your replacing a blown bulb or upgrading to a new colour just have a look below thanks to Mod. Julie for the removal how to part

You need to undo the 2 screws at the top of the instrument panel. Now lift down the panel undernath the steering wheel (the thing u open to get to fuses),then undo the 3 screws at the top holding the fascia in.

The dash fascia will now be ready to partially remove, carefully unclip the fascia. Before the fascia is completely removed you will have to unplug all the electrical connectors (lights switch, hazards, fog lights, trip mode), to do this simply reach from behind and pull them out whilst holding the front. Depending on what stereo you have and how it has been mounted, this may also need to be removed. Now the dash fascia can be carefully removed.

Its best to now lower the steering wheel as far down as it will go. The instrument cluster has 2 screws holding it in at the top. Unscrew these, now pull out the cluster just far enough to get your hand behind it and unplug it from the wiring harness. Now the cluster can be carefully pulled out.

Once the cluster is out and you have it unhooked from the wiring harness turn it around and it should look something like this. (note this picture is from my old 1lv cluster cbf getting out the 3lv one from my car)

So now just change out the bulbs mentioned above if you have got this kit, or any other bulbs you want to upgrade to another colour or replace if blown up Reverse the above to finish!

LOL theres no way with only 9 LEDs replacements can look like those pics, infact they look familar....

3 ways i can tell those PRND123 lights on the cluster have 7 SMD LEDs u cant plug n play those. and u cant get the needles 2 light up different colours with out adding extra LEDs in there and modifying the needles where the ad says no modyfiying required, 2 get the white LEDs 2 work u need 2 remove the green film other wise it will show up a pale green colour

    smells like scam 2 me

I'll see what happens, even if I get the speedo, tacho, fuel, temp and screens to work I'd be happy, my needles are diff anyways because mine a clubby dash.

For $20 it was worth a shot, if I need more for needles I can always get more

Fair enough, 20 bucks is nothing to give it a try and see how it goes. I'll see what it looks like and play around with It a bit. I still have my old cluster, so I could use that. How much is it to do just a Vx hsv 3lv cluster in blue? Or how much for all of it?

I pulled apart my old dash yesterday and the mode and all them looked way too hard to do myself hahah

I was going to say they look like your handy work. Wait till people install them and find out they look shit compared to the pictures!.

Just plug and play. someone's plugging and playing allright. i have seen the work you have done inside the cluster. and it's no plug and play job to get that quality.

can u solder at all and dismantle the cluster with no worries? i could make up an exchange kit 4 just the cluster if u can. i charge $150 4 those alone. and 4 a full conversion can b between $260-$400 depending on models. if ur interested either contact Greg or myself, im not sure wat Greg charges 4 seperate conversion so ud have 2 email or call him 4 a quote.
