Have you checked the fault codes?

46 is No reference signal while cranking, according to a quick search on here.

If it's starting ok (especially while hot), I'd imagine the CAS is ok. If the belt is lined up straight on all the pulleys and the balancer isn't moving while running it's probably on right.

Can try resetting the codes and driving it around. Then check the codes again and see what it throws up.

Could be a number of things that can cause what you've described.

dont know if the vt run individual coil packs but sounds like a problem with mates vz, stalled it up, ie put it under load and it misfired, one of the coil packs failed.

Yeah disconnect the battery to reset the codes.

Possible causes include, coil pack, dfi module, dodgy leads, amongst other things.
