I'm purchasing my sis-in-laws VT and have to fix a few things to get a roadworthy. One of them is replacing the headlight unit as a small impact has broken all the mounting tabs. To replace the unit. does it just slideout the front and the new one slips in or do I need to remove the bumper etc.
Basically I have know idea at this stage.....anyone done one?

nah mate take off the bumper and there are 2 bolts up the top you undo to get the headlight out.
you cant get the light out with the bumper on.
you have to remove the bumper.haven't done it recently but i think there are 3 screws at the top,a couple on the front edge of each wheel arch where the bumper wraps around and then there are a couple of clips that i don't think you can see behind the bar.it's probably worth waiting for another comment before you attempt it in case there's a particular method for releasing the bar from those clips (wouldn't want to break anything). from memory it's a really simple job made even simpler if you have a mate to help you so that you can evenly support the bar.
thanks guys...I'll now be able to move ahead slowly and get it done.
Thanks for the replies...great forum.

Put the car on ramps if you have them, remove the 2 plastic scrivets from under the middle of the bar, remove the 2 screws from each end of the bar in the wheel arches, remove the self tapping screws from the top of the bar above the grilles and pull the bar forward to disengage from the plastic mounts on the guards. There are 3 mounting screws for the headlight, 1 on top, 1 behind the support panel and 1 at the inner side of the unit near the radiator. When you put it back in, make sure you locate the the locating stud on the outer end of the headlight into the hole in the front of the guard. If you don't do this, the stud will break and allow the headlight to move. I hope this is clear enough to help.
