I have a 2001 vx Lumina v6 automatic commodore, I was recently having a problem where id be driving and all of a sudden the car would just shut off, the car would crank for a while and then finally after a few minutes would start. Sometimes i would try and start my car and would do the same thing, crank for a while, finally start, then just stall.
I replaced the fuel pump and it seemed to be going fine, didnt miss a beat, then after putting another 900kms on the clock i went to start the car, and now it will just crank but not fire. I cannot hear the fuel pump winding up anymore when the ignition is turned on, i have checked the relay and the fuse for the fuel pump and seem to be fine, have checked for spark and am getting it. I have no idea what the problem is and am left with a car just sitting in the driveway. Has anyone got any ideas what could be wrong?? Is it possible to burn another fuel pump out in under a 1000kms? I took it to the mechanic before and no error codes showed up, also replaced the battery and fuel filter. I am at a loss and dont know what the problem is, im wondering if it could be a faulty wire somewhere causing power to not reach the fuel pump??
hey mate did u replace the whole assembly or just the pump inside it?
i done just the pump, drove fine for 2 days then wont start. just cranks.
its stuck at mechanics as i have to go to work.
mechanics said they always replace the whole assembly.
i dont know why this would happen though.
howd u fix it too...
Try turning the ignition on then smack the fuel tank with a rubber mallet the listen for the fuel pump winding up . I had to do this for a week every time i wanted to start my VX till i replaced the pump .
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
Check fuel pressure while cranking.
Hows your fuel filter?
Check if there is power going to the fuel pump with the test light. Might be a open circuit.
Check the connector on the fuel pumpl. might of come off if not pluged in properly.
