Iv done some reading on the forums about replacing the standard diff gears with a higher ratio one. It looks like getting higher diff gears will help stop the sluggish feel of the ecotech engine. Is that correct?
I drive a vx series 2 auto. The highest speed limit road i would usually use is 90, but not often.
I just want to clarify a few things:
What diff gear should i get and where do i get them?
Do i just buy the gears or a complete diff?
What other advantages or disadvantages are there to getting higher diff gears?
Yes diff gears will help acceleration
1. Depends on a few factors, if dont cruise the highway often go 3:9's, if you do then maybe 3.73's.
2. You can just buy the gears.
3. Advantages are better acceleration and feel, disadvantages include using more fuel and a decreased top speed.
Nice and precise thanks heaps!
Where can i source them from? Other than wreckers and ebay.
I do some high way driving so i reckon il look into the 3.73's, but roughly how much are they?
Should i just buy the gears or buy a complete diff?
How much will my top speed be reduced by if i go 3.73's
1. Ask a diff/performance shop in your area, they should be able to point you in the right direction.
2. Assuming you mean the diff gears installed with new shims, etc. around $1000-$1500. obviously cheaper if you just buy the gears and do it yourself.
3. Might be worth upgrading to a LSD if you car doesnt have one, otherwise just the gears.
4. Wont matter if you dont plan on going 110kph+ often
always happy to help mate, feel free to pm me if youve got any more questions
