    Default Throttle Position Sensor

A while ago my VT series 1 exec was having a casual problem where it would begin to idle higher than usual (1,000rpm) when coming to a stop, and then move to 1,800rpm when I put it in neutral.... so every few days I would have to pull over and turn off the car in drive, then let it rest for a sec, turn it back on (sometimes would hear a loud pop in the engine bay) and then it would be fine until next time.

After a few months of this (since the mechanic couldn't find out why it was happening, but suspected the TPS), the TPS finally gave way and I got it replaced. NOW a few months after this, it occasionally happens about once a fortnight, maybe once a week. There's just no pattern to it.

Would it possibly be a wiring problem to the TPS, or could there by another underlying cause that won't show itself?

    Thanks

Perhaps also look into Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve.

I had an issue where mine was doing it randomly when I was stopped at lights etc and idling, would increase revs etc.
Now that I've replaced it, it'll only usually rev once up a little and then settle back down if the car is in park and idling for a while.

Also ensure there is a bit of slack on the accelerator cable. There is really piss all difference in butterfly movement, for 1000rpm difference in neutral.

Also look and see if there is carbon build-up blocking the butterfly from closing properly.

When you replaced the TPS did you clean everything really good,if not then all the gunk thats still inside could be stuck to the new TPS.

Hmmm I'll check that out tomorrow EDGE3, It was a very quick job as I had work soon after lol.

Butterfly seems clean, I'll check the IAC too. Thanks for the quick responses everyone!
