Default How do you replace bulbs in temp + fan switchs in the centre for VX

Hi im new to the Holdens and enjoying every moment of it, ive recently brought a VX ss with a few porformance modifications.I was wondering if any one could help me.?

Im having trouble finding how to replace to bulbs behind the fan+temp switchs.

I have looked all through gregorys and searched on this site but cant seem to find out how, its quite annoying at night as you could imagine.

I have tried just taking the nobs off and priying the unit off witha butter nife wraped in cloth to prevent scrathing but doesent seem to want to budge. I dont want to give to much force just in case its not the way to take it off.

    Any advise will be apreciated.

This should help, it is by courtesy of Spyper. Unfortunately the thread is that old that the links to the pics are no longer working.
Ok if you're just going to be replacing globes, the job will be easy enough. The hard part is taking the white backing (that the globes and controls fit to) off, because you need to disconnect plugs and gears.

Ok, as for taking apart the AC controls.. easy job.
Disconnect the battery (negative terminal will do).

Take off the dash starting by removing the CD player (Edit: This does not need to be done - sorry). This is done by inserting cut/bent coathanger into the 4 holes, 2 on either side, then pulling the cd player out.

Undo 2 screws, 1 either side of the lighter socket, underneath the compartment/ashtray. Then lift up the plastic surround of the gear stick. There are a few clips that hold it in, use a flatblade screw driver to lever them out a little. MUCH easier with two people.

Not sure if the compartment needs removing, but this is how.

Take 2 screws out at the top of the cluster.

Flip down the fuse panel directly under the steering wheel, its held in by a few clips. Undo the 2 screws on the right, and 1 screw on the left.

    http://members.optusnet.com.au/skylo...fusepanel2.JPG

The dash should pull out from there, but there are a few cables connecting it, so disconnect the cables.

To take apart the AC controls, pull the dials/switches off the face. You may also need to undo one screw each side.. I forget.

Just unscrew the globe holders, they twist half a turn from the back. Screw the new ones in. Reverse the procedure to put it all back together. If you need anything else, just ask =)

Decent write up, I just replaced all of mine last week, wish I knew of this.

Whilst you're in there, I'd suggest replacing all dash globes where the speedo is also, you'll notice the difference, saves you having to do it again & the globes are the cheaper of the lot!

Sorry mate, can't remember size but the ones behind the dash clip in and out easily, it's the ones behind the heater controls that you need to buy the globe which comes in a screw in retainer, they're about $11 each from Holden.

depends on which heater unit u have? there r 3 different standard type heater controls funny enough that each all use different size globes.

I have to replace some of mine too .What do you mean by three different types ? I though there was only the standard type or the climate control type.
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't

Theres 3 types, its all 2 do with the internals and the PCB's and how they r layed out, yet all 3 work the same and look the same, but the globes in each PCB r different in size.

Best way 2 match them up is 2 take out the globes from behind ur own A/C and demister buttons as most of the others u cant access unless u strip the unit right down.

Only the 3rd type needs a custom PCB board made up, which r usually found in the SS models that werent optioned with climate control ive found.

The other 2 u use the existing boards.

my point was that, doesn't matter what type of HVAC/Climate control he has, I can supply a board to suit with any colour LED directly soldered on so it's just a case of swapping the boards over.
    make sense?
