window tint
hey guys i have 35% window tint atm and i was looking to get 20% this week
was just wondering if you guys with the 20% tint have had some trouble with the police or they have been all cool with it?
just waying up what to do

How hard can it be?
Can't speak from personal experience as I have 35. But I've got a mate who is a tinter and he's always said 20 is ok, think that's what he's got on his car too, never had any trouble. That said it's illegal and still a risk regardless, you don't want to get a cop having a bad day who goes defect happy on your car.
EDIT: Also got a mate who got 10% on his car, he has be done by a cop before.

We had 10% on our wagon years ago thankfully we didn't have any police trouble (Small country town) however when we got it done we accepted we were getting it done without any guarantee from the business who tinted them and that we were running the risk that if we did get pulled up we had no one but ourselves to blame for it. At the end of the day I think it depends on the police in your area and another thing to consider too if they pull you up for illegal windows is there anything else on your car they can pick on. Only you can decide if it's worth the risk and what's at stake.

i've got 35% but let me tell you this
cops don't care how dark the tint but the darker it is the more likely they will think you're doing something you shouldn't
if you're happy with possible extra attention go for it

Your insurance company will.
they did after i kept asking why do i get pulled over so often and i quote
" we target 60% of older cars with really dark tint because we find that they're on drugs and that's why target these older holdens and fords"

When you get tint, does that include the front windscreen? a mate said u cant tint that

any tint on the windscreen apart from the little sun strip across the top of the window is illegal.
dont get me wrong guys, ill be getting 20% on my SS, but only when ive got a daily driver. would suck to get stickered for something as gay as tint!
my neighbour has like 10% and she has never been pulled up but she also isnt on her p's like most of us hah

10% tint is gay, gets kind of old having to put your windows down an night time because you cant see shit
yeah 10% is too dark on the sides but i will be getting 5% on my back window omorrow

The problem with such mods is not so much getting pulled over. It's when you hit something that things go epic pear shaped. Didn't see that car you hit (at fault)? ORLY says the insurance company noting the illegal tint on your windows and declining payment on your claim.
On the other hand you look cool so I suppose it's worth any risk.

Qld law - I assume most states would be fairly similar?
"Automotive tinting material which has a light
transmittance factor of not less than 35 per cent (T35)
may be used on any non-tinted side or rear window"
