Default what method is used to steal these models of commodore?

hi all. the reason i am asking, is that im buying something in one of these models that a car theif would love to nick if they saw it. the vehicle in question is totally unmodified, so i am reluctant to put a car alarm in it, as it is too much of a butchery of the car i feel, and am considering a hidden killswitch. if they are generally started by breaking the ignition barrel or a master key, a killswitch would be my choice for a little peace of mind for breif periods anyway
if thif more commonly hack the wiring further down, it might take some more consideration.
i dunno if we need to post any details on how to steal our commodores, so maybee someone could pm me if they know. someone who's had stolen/recovered or something...
any info would be appreciated. cheers

Go the alarm. I'd rather stop them before they get in the car then having them get in and destroy everything trying to get it started.

VT-VX have enough security to stop joyriders. If they know enough to get it going then they'd probably know enough no matter what you did to it. Pay your insurance and try not to park it where it's likely to get nicked.

yeah. it sounds like she should be pretty safe as is then. ille just need to be particular about parking i guess. still need to case out the insurance. that will be fun . less worry in the end, but im just anxious to hear the price on the premium. its gonna suck i think.

vt executives were the most stolen car in aus, it was in sc. it was a year or more ago but yeah. id definatly put a kill switch and a steering lock will cost you about 20-30 bucks.

You can deadlock it to slow them down. I'd say factory immobiliser wouldn't be easy to get around either. If they want it they'll get it.

Heard a story about a ute with alarms that paged the owner etc etc. They didnt even smash the window just cut the handbrake cable and winched it onto a trailer. He should have left it in gear huh

mobile tracking alarms or mobile deavtivation alarms would be prety good i reckon but would not be cheap. i got a viper alarm in my vk its a pain in the ass i dont even use it.

i will get a kill switch put in and a clublock too now thinking about it. anything that consumes time has to be a help. plus u can belt someone with a clublock if u want to
i wouldnt consider an aftermarket alarm. it would wreck the car

I don't recon a decent aftermarket alarm wrecks the car and one with tracking is the best way to go as they can also page you if someone tries to open a door. I'd rather be at ease knowing my car is a pain in the arse to steal then worry about adding an alarm to it.The factory security is pretty good don't get me wrong but it has 1 really big weakness and that is it has an override function. That is the most common way of stealing these cars.

I remember at work one day, one of the guys went to his VT to find the rear quarter window smashed and the usual attempt to disarm the alarm. He originally thought they gave up until I showed him exactly what was going on. I'm not going into detail about it but it's quite easy to find out how to disarm the factory immobiliser if you really want to. I've also had an attempt on one of my cars but they were still working on getting past the deadlock when my car warned me and I got to it, so make sure you always use the deadlock!

I took both my cars to a holden dealer and got them to fit a factory upgrade alarm. Now if someone breaks a window the alarm goes off. It cost $300 each but it was worth it.

I mainly got it done because one of my cars was broken into while I was at work. After that I decided to get both cars done.

I think it's a bit like computer systems, you can make a system nearly impossible to hack, but it's almost impossible to use. You could install kill switches, aftermarket and upgraded alarms, wheel locks, immobilisers. But you start to ruin the car. Best thing you can do is be careful where you park, maybe chuck a steering wheel lock on- deterrent value is your best bet.

Other than that, move out to the country :P
My town, I leave windows down/unlocked and all such, never have any problems- only close it up at night to keep cats/roos out of it.

definitely fit a kill switch, the factory immobilizer is false sense of security. it will stop amateur thieves only.
an alarm is better as deters thieves from entering car

I have to agree,I would never fit an aftermarket alarm,I have seen too many cars suffer from different electrical gremlins because someone has hacked up or tapped into the vehicles wiring when installing an alarm system. And its not just the ones fitted by the backyarder,Im also talking about ones that have been fitted professionally..Youve only gotta read through the posts on here that are about different problems caused by dodgey alarm systems, or more likely, from the dodgey fitting of the alarm system..Theres nothing worse than trying to find a problem on a car thats had its electricals and wiring stuffed around with or changed. Some people even butcher the wiring harneses to fit level 3 dashes or aftermarket stereo systems..The problem is that when these wiring connections get old, they can get bad ,even when they're soldered.Although I have to admit, soldered connections are a world away from the snap together plastic wire joiners..You may as well just twist the wires together as use them plastic type wire joiners...

To the op, I knew a repo agent who had the best method for taking a non payers car. Tilt tray with a good winch. Steering locks and wheel locks no deterrant at all and if a thief wants your car bad enough, kiss it goodbye as they will take it regardless of what you do.

would love to have some sort of remote taiser device fitted to the seat actually. so if someone nicks it you could fry that scumbags ass.
    a) its probably a little bit illegal
    b) probably easier thought of than done
    c) it would probably malfunction and fry my ass

why spend your money on that sort of stuff when you can spend it on good comprehensive insurance cover that will pay out for it? if you do the best to keep your car safe eg. locking, parking in garage etc and it gets stolen and trashed insurance will pay out

well, mainly cos i am guestimating that insurance on a clubsport might be pretty hefty. if its near a grand a yar premium, thats too much in my books, unless it gets stolen in the first four or five years, its really not been worth paying at that price. i mean i would pay them the value of the car in 10 years. something just doesnt sound quite right about that. maybee im looking at it from a bad point of view or something, but i've only ever personally known 1 guy to get his car knocked off really, so what are the chances....
i will be getting quotes however, and if its a lot more reasonably priced than i am thinking i might go for it

^^^ Or just pull the fuel pump and/or the engine bay relay/fuse out if you have to leave the car for a while, especially at a railway carpark.

deadlocking the car at railway stations or overnight if u park outside will be enough. anything more than an ametuer thief will steal your car regardless of what security u have if they really want it.
