    Default How much labour involved in replacing a VX inner control arm bushes and a new sump?

    Hi,

    I need to replace my 2001 VX Calais;

    -Inner control arm bushes (Split).
    -A new sump (Leaking oil from a couple bolts. The mechanic says if the bolts are undone it'll crack the sump so I'll need a new one).

    Is there a lot of work involved with this? The mechanic couldn't give me a quote that day and he said he'll look over it and inform me later.

    I'd just like a rough idea how much this will cost as my funds are a bit tight due to needing to see a Dentist.

    Thank you!

    Well the easiest way is to drop the k frame whilst holding the engine in place, your looking at about 4 to 6 hours work, where I work that's about $350 to $500 labour plus parts, it should not be a huge job

    Control arms ~ 1-2hrs & @ $80hr=$160max.

    Sump leak - V6 or V8(5.0 or LS1) and what bolts is it leaking from?

    Thanks guys!

    The engine is a 5.7 liter V8 (LS1) I can't exactly remember what bolts the mechanic was referring too unfortunately. But he'll need to remove the sump to get to them.

    I'm hoping this work will cost an absolute maximum of $800.

    Sump could be already cracked or warped and so yeah... it is a big job as you either need to drop the K frame to get to it and I believe this is true, but you also might need to remove the grearbox(or at east 1-2 bolts from it...) as well... reason is the box bolts through the sump I believe.(I could be wrong about this...)

    Well my mechanic got back to me and quoted;

    $190 for the inner control arm bushes (parts, labour).
    $850 for the leaking sump (new sump sourced from USA apparently half the cost of what a genuine Holden one is, oil, labour).

    Ouch!

    :'(
