Default clunking noise from drivers side (rear) under acceleration

    Hey there

My 99VT SS 5.7 6sp manual has a loud clunking noise that sometimes shows up under 'reasonable' acceleration. Sounds like something knocking around in the boot (but its not!!)

Also sometimes jumps out of first gear when pulling away. I think the clutch has a pretty high bite point but as its my first commodore I dont know if thats the norm'

    Any ideas???

    Cheers

Hi mate, as for the car jumping out of gear that could be your clutch not engauging proply,i know after i had my exedy HD clutch put in the problem has never been back.

And the knocking noise had me confused for months lol, for me it was 3 things
1)the plastic holder for the jack in the boot was rattling around
    2) the screw in pin for the spare tyre
    3) rear link pins and rear control arm bushes were shot

    Hope that helps mate

I had the exact same thing but with an auto, took it to a garage and ended up having the engine mounts replaced, after that it was completely fine and the clunking noise was gone.
not saying it's definitely that but could be

i have the same thing in my car

but not under full hard acceleration but only under partitial acceleeration and sometimes under engine braking

i'm thinking its something expensive so i'm ignoring it

being a manual i will put my money on it being the uni's in the tailshaft, when you are coasting along sorta 'jab' at the accelerator pedal and whenever you jab see if it clunks

but what puzzles me is if i fully hit it hard there's no noise

i think this is because when you cane it, the shaft and everything is under stress so it's all under tension (no movement up and down?)

when you only use partial power there's a bit of slack? i dunno

otherwise my manual and clutch is both ok for a 10yr old that's been hit too many times
