Default Tyre size for VX using 16'' VE steelies

I want to use white wall tyres on our old school look VX Commodore and since we are using the VE steelies the standard size for the VE is 225/60/R16 but the correct tyre size for the VX is 225/55/R16. Now the whitewalls are only available in either 205/55/R16 or 225/60/R16 size so I'm wondering how much difference will the extra 5 to the 55 make to the speed of the car and will the 205's fit on the 7'' rims.

Thanks, I to went from 17'' to 15'' 3 years ago because of the rough country roads but since I've moved to a town with better roads I'm going to use the 16''.
I'll wait to hear about the extra 5 before making up my mind.

yeah, not sure what the change in profile (extra 5) would do, but if you are going from 15's to 16's shouldnt make much of a difference. Might be easier to call your local tyre shop and see what they say in regards to it mate.

205 /55/16 when the speedo reads 100kph you will be travelling 3.4% slower.225/60/16 when your speedo reads 100kph you will be travelling at 103.4kph.of course none of this is true when your tyres are worn so at the end of the day make your decision on which you prefer remembering that if someone else is driving your car who isn't aware of the incorrect tyres being fitted, they may be slightly more liable to get a speeding ticket.you'd have to be bloody unlucky cos i reckon that lots of tyre outlets are fitting incorrect tyres every day

The 205/55/16 are the correct size so when the speedo reads 100kph I'll be doing 100kph, I received the same reply at another forum site so I'm ordering a set of the 225/60/16 today and will just remember to travel 5klms slower than the speed limit andI wont have any problems.

as everyone agrees this argument now probably falls into the "who really gives a f##k" anyway cos you"ll run the tyres that you prefer seeing as none of the sizes that you're considering are really pushing the limits of sensibility.however just to clarify a point:the correct size tyre for a VX other than an S or SS is 225/55-16 .good luck

On Thursday when driving back from the Cooly Rocks on Festival I saw 4 highway patrol car between Rockhampton and Emerald and 2 were chasing down speeders and 2 had pulled over folks and were booking them.

I have a full set of the 225/55/R16's on the VE steelies and am going to fit them on the weekend. I stool them against the outer side of the rear guards and they don't fit under by about 3mm so when they are fitted to the new machined hubs they will look pretty smick. I had Pedders lower it by on setting down from the standard setting and also have a towing package fitted for when towing the van.
I never went with thw white walls because we have 1klm of smooth dirt road into our house and I'd be forever washing the walls to keep them clean.
