ok. so on my way back into town the other day (sitting on around 150Kph) my commodore felt fine but as soon as i had to stop and let her back into first gear i could feel a strange sort of grinding noise (i am not sure were from)
The tranny is loud as anything (all oil levels are fine and the ATF doesn't smell burned)
first gear "Grips" up to around 30Kph then "Slips" there on and after about 5 min of driving she just slips from any speed and any rev range.
A few mates have gueesed that the auto clutch is worn right out.
Has any one ever had this issue or any advice??
(dont know all that much about tranny's so yeah. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Drive at the speed limit. Let start with that firstly.
What do you mean when you say "you had to let her back into 1st gear"?
Are you shifting through the gears or...?
do you have a trans cooler on the car?

If your "sitting" at 150kph for any long period of time the trans fluid will get hot. For that kind of driving you would want an external trans cooler (most didnt come with one from the factory)
ok was not doing that speed for long.
trans cooler? when i got the radiator replaced the mechanic tried to explain to me that the ATF had there own lines running in the radiator so to me that would be a trans cooler or is that incorrect?
(quick reply to who ever said to do the speed limit. the road into Kalgoorlie from the north is dead straight and bloody boring...)
Trans was serviced just on 10,000K ago.. was going to get serviced next weekend but then this happened.
No work has been done to the car besides a manual override on the thermo fan, POD Filter, after market stereo and new radiator fitted.
Sounds like a rebuild.

internal trans cooler is what you have, which is crap. its only a thin walled tube that does bugger all. external means outside usually infront of the condensor. you mech is shit, fire him, read this forrum and get a manual for your car
Does sound like your clutch packs are worn out which means trans out and a rebuild.
