Hi guys, is it possable to self push out and push in a set of ball joints and inner control arm bushes in a vt commodore sedan ? or should i just remove the control arm and send it to the local mechanic to do the job
Real cars don't power the front wheels, they lift them
its possible i did my own on my vk but its bloody hard so id sugest getting them pressed in by a mechanic
Im pretty sure they did away with pressing in ball joints in on VR models and later, they just bolt on now.Not 100% sure about the VT's though,I know that with my VS, the replacement ball joints just bolt straight on.You just have to remove the old ball joint by removing the 3 rivets that hold the original ball joint to the control arm,you do this by hitting the rivets along its collet with a cold chisel to crack the collet. Then you just remove the collet and knock the old rivet out.The replacement ball joints already come with the bolts and nuts you use to bolt the new ball joint to the control arm..That is unless holden went back to pressing in their ball joints on the VT..

Yeah mate holden went back to pressing them in , i got asked a mechanic today how much for him to press the old ones out and new ones in (me pulling the control arm out) he quoted me $80 think thats abit rough for a 5min job

Trust holden to make it harder again to renew them. The riveted type are heaps easier to change I reckon. You can buy a press for a couple a hunderd dollars and do it yourself. If your gonna be doing more work like this, then it might be cheaper than paying $80 a hit.As you said, its a 5 minute job.Same with pressing in the bushes.
I seen a tool on YouTube made by snap on , looks like a d clamp with different attachments, was gonna look into graving something like that,
