Question VX S1 vs S2 SS

    Hi all.

I am now headed down the track of buying either a VX or VZ SS. Steering more towards the VX as I think it feels more raw.

Few queries which (please don't grill me) may be answered somewhere on this forum and I have searched and found some answers to other queries so thanks.

What are the major differences between Series 1 and 2 of the VX SS?

Can the Indicator and Wiper Stalks be swapped from S2 to S1?

Thinking about upgrading the dash cluster to a 3 window one from a calais or other, I see there are threads about changing these over and needing to get a Tech 2 to upload information for the car it's going into. No problem. Also I see that if over 100k (more than likely to be the case when I purchase) that the klms can't be changed to suit the car it is going into? Is there anyway to do this without having to purchase a new one from Holden?

Anything else that anyone can advise in differences and issues that have been ironed out by the introduction of S2 would be much appreciated.

I am wanting to buy a S2 over the series 1 however will be limited to what is available when I am ready to buy next month.

    Thanks in advance.

I know that if you're thinking of going bigger wheels that S2 is the way to get as the rear cradle has a toe adjuster which means that camber won't be an issue, which will save you a bit of coin in the long run with tyres etc.

Apart from that, generally the series 2 are better than series 1 because they fix the flaws found in the series 1.

So in my opinion, series 2 would be the way to go. Hope that helps.

From what I can recall the main difference is the extra link in the rear suspension, it was supposed to fix the rear tyre wear that some of the VT VTII and VX1 had, it did help but some VXII still have the same problem as the earlier cars especially when lowered, and some of the earlier cars were ok they did not all wear tyres, my VX1 SS did over 40,000km on the original tyres and they were never ever rotated, just didn't get around to it, at the 40,000km mark they were showing signs of inner wear though, fronts were still good. Other differences from memory are the indicator stork, personal opinion on which one you prefer, the inside trim changed from Grey to a darker colour almost black from memory, it might have even been black, the series 2 gained an alarm, series 2 had a different sender unit for the fuel gauge but that caused problems with inaccurate readings, there may have been a recall on series 2 to fix the fuel gauge problem but I think some still had problems even after the fix. There really wasn't a great deal of difference between the 2 cars. The later series two's got revised pistons to try and combat the piston noise that was present on some cars when the engine was cold, it consisted of a teflon type coating on the pistons, this really was not a great success as they revised the pistons again on the late VY1 and VYII cars by revising the gudgeon pin design along with the coating on the pistons to help with the noise issue.
Leather trim became an option in series 2 as well. From memory that was about it. Both great cars to drive if you get a good one of either series you will be happy.

id say if youd have the choice go VXII every time, very happy with mine.

arent you the same bloke that was asking the differences between VY and VZ clubby's? big difference in price lol

edit: i plan on calais dashing my SS and if you fit a VTII one with the white plastic back they can be reprogrammed to suit your kms

Yup I was asking about the clubby. With bub best to put less cash into the car now and save some for bub. I can always upgrade down the track once financial circumstances change.
