I got my S1 VX fitted with a 4 point camber kit (with wheel alignment) yesterday from a highly reputable place in Canberra. Stupidly I didn't ask for a quote when booking it in or ringing around but I had a fair idea what it would normally cost. I am kicking myself about this.
Went to pick it up and the charge was $750.
Is there anything I can do as this seems almost double what others have gotten it for?
In addition, upon driving it home I heard a rattle from the rear, inspected it when I got home and the bottom bolts that screw the struts in to the hubs aren't tight and are unscrewed - could do them up by hand.
I am about to head back down to get it sorted - what are my options?
Cheers
its a bit too late now you've paid them mate. i got a four point kit installed + rear bushes for about that price!
Firstly with the nuts not tightened correctly they haven't done a great job and should be reamed for it.
On price, (I do contracts for a living) you not have much to stand on. They weren't asked to provide a price in before you requested the job therefore the only thing you could do is try to knock them down by taking a quote in from another establishment and reaming them about the lack of care taken with ensuring everything was put back in correctly. I'd throw back something along the lines of "if this fell off on a freeway etc."
Black on Black is beautiful!
I got a quote of 4hrs $320 to install springs and camber kit (i supplied parts) a few years age. It ended up taking 10 hours to do the install and the guy pulls the old "well obviously with the extra time comes extra cost". I said "well I was going to ask for a discount because I was meant to have may car back at lunchtime and you didn't get it back until 6 o'clock. How bout we meet half way and Ill pay the amount you quoted". The moral of the story is always ask for a quote
If that highly reputable place starts with a p then there is your main problem
I think it depends how long you go.
I paid $236 in VIC for 1 camber including labour.

Thanks for the replies.
One of life's lessons I suppose. I won't be making the mistake of not getting a quote again!
Nor will I go back to them.

I paid $580 for a pedders 4 point kit supplied and fitted at Timelord in thorneside (brisbane) which included a front and rear alignment That was last december .I'm really happy with the job they did . I've travelled 30,000km since then with much improved handling and tyre wear .I'd recommend them to anyone.
I got a 4 point supplied and fitted plus a wheel alignment for $350 about 2 years ago .
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
i got my 4 point kit, plus front and rear wheel alignment done a few months ago for around $600, and that was trade price, different place though.
I've never heard of anything bad about the place you went. Prices seem to be higher for a lot of things like this in the ACT.
