Post Connecting iPod to VX Berlina stereo

    G'day
I want to directly connect my iPod/iPhone to the VX stereo in my Berlina via a cable to maximise sound quality.
I also want to use the steering wheel controls to change skip songs on iPhone and control volume all on the steering wheel etc.

Is it possible to disable the tape player and somehow connect a cable from the back of the stereo unit or even disable the CD player and connect acable from the back of the stereo to my iPhone.
And i can then put iPhone in glovebox or centre console...

I already have an fm transmitter thing but i want to change songs on iPhone via steering wheel and it doesnt let me do it.

I'm hoping I dont have to get an aftermarket head unit b/c i want to save $$
(Also, something bluetooth to answer calls and stuff would be alright as well)

for things your chasing, come in most after market head units mate all with your Bluetooth, iPod connection's (AUX ports) in the front and rear of the head unit.

and as for the changing of the volume and songs change on the steering wheel, i know the volume can be adjusted though it but not the song.

but pay a visit to a local car audio shop and tell them what your after and they can help you out. and just look into an after market one, you wont regret it.

As far as getting the audio through the headunit from iPod/iPhone/anyting with 3.5mm connector, get onto Phreddy/Greg from ASR Audio (first sponsor on the list for these forums). I had him modify my VX berlina headunit with an auxilary input, works wonders! Basically whenever you plug a cable into the socket, the radio cuts out and the iPhone etc audio comes through. I've currently got mine hooked up to an external iPhone craddle / BT hands free.

On a side note, in my spare time Im developing a plug in type module that will control the ipod/iphones from the steering wheel controls. Idea is when theres an ipod/iphone connected, Phreddys aux mod kicks in, but also the steering wheel controls are intercepted and passed to the iphone instead of the cd player. Work in progress tho. Been going for nearly 12months, just need to find time to finish it off.
