latly been getting a rattle from around gear stick area

i have a manual vx ss, and the past few weeks i have been getting a rattle from some where around the gear stick, it only happenes at 3500 when im over taking a car or trying to get to speed quick!
i have taken everything out from the car, no luck
i have pulled the gear boot up and had a feel around still can't feel anything

the only thing i haven't done is pull up the white rubber boot ( coz i don't no how to?)
any ideas would be great it sound like a loose washer thats vibrating

apparently its the gear knob on the 6 speeds, ive read it alot, and mine is exactly the same, hold the knob while your giving it some beans to see if it stops.

This is very common on the 6 speeds, it happened on mine (for 4 years) till i got a ripshift, not really much you can do about it.

thanks, but its not the knob its in side the console some whrere under the white rubber boot. i spoke to holden and the guy told me you have to take the center console out to get the white rubber boot out

Gearshift Knob Rattles Gen III Manual - The gearshift knob may vibrate to the point where it can generally be heard in 3rd or 4th gear at wide open throttle between 2500 to 4000 rpm. This condition is a result of excessive clearance between the shifter knob and the shifter lever. From March of 2002, gearshift knobs were glued on.


Gearshift Rattles Gen III Manual - Under certain driving conditions some VT's may develop a rattling gear shift lever. This condition is different to gear knob rattle. The cause of the rattle may be due to excessive clearances in the remote shifter linkages. A revised remote shifter was introduced late 2003 to eliminate rattles

Hope that helps must be the 2nd problem as you said it wasnt the gear knob.
Buy the sounds of it you need a new shifter, may as well invset in a ripshift.

Yes any decent machanic should be able to fit one it comes with DIY install papers.
they are worth more than there weight in GOLD.

i spoke to gm motosport and he told me $670 supply and fit
will be getting one when i do my tax!
its not bad for the gearbox to drive around with rattly linkages? it only happens when i punch it to about 3500 rpms
