    Default Replacing swaybar linkages

    hey fellas,

I just got car back from the mechanics with new engine mounts however i'm still hearing a clunking noise occasionally when i turn, I know my linkages are quite worn and will need replacing within 6 months, I'm just wondering if thats whats making the noise? Or is there something else?

If so, is this kit the one to buy?

Have you had a look on you car to see if you have the 90 degree bend one or not?

On my vt wagon I know it's the second one you will just have to look yourself to see what one you need.

Just recently one of my rubber spacers cracked and fell out and would rattle when I drove it so I just replaced all the rubbers

im almost sure that the first ones with the 90 degree ball joint werent released until vy, they can be fitted but you would need a vy swaybar, but there is nothing wrong with the other aftermarket links they are a marked improvment on the original sway bar links.

Yeah, looks like I have the straight one, I have a 98 VT series 1. Was just confused because the after market one has a d-section in the link and i thought the originals were rounded the whole way, does it matter?

a "d" section? do you mean the spot that is flat so you can put a shifter on there to stop it spinning around while your tightening it?

Ahh haha thats it :P At work, we have D-shafts and normal shafts, usually D-shafts are for a d-bearing, tends to last longer. Was just curious thats all.

Ok so i brought the z-shaped links from ebay and they should hopefully arrive this week. I've searched the forums and everyone seems to have different opinions on how to replace them. Can i replace them with the wheels on the ground? Can i jack up one side, take the wheel off and put a stand below the control arm and replace 1 side at a time? Or do i have to jack the whole car up, put stands on either side and replace them that way?

    Yes but it's awkward

Yes again but it makes life difficult because you have to lever the 'bar down far enough to get the link out rather than having the 'bar freely drop down out of the way. Being able to rotate the wheels on the steering also helps.

Have you read my "How To" on replacing the links?
