gday all, i just replaced my starter motor in my vx ss. what a mission but this i found the best way without extra cost. jack front up n put on stands. remove front wheels. mark position of steering joint knuckle n undo bolt, remove bolt n clip. undo the 2 powersteering fluid line of front of steering block n let fluid drain. undo the 2 main steering rack mounting bolts, pull rack out as far as possible. DO NOT undo tie rods as you will require wheel alignment! remove heatshield joing bolt in the middle of heatshield then undo n remove the 2bolts from the bell housing n remove heat shield. undo n remove wires of starter motor and then undo the 2 main starter motor mounting blocks. then with a little patience it will come out. this requires a lot of patience but after a quick clean up fit new starter in reverse steps. once in place n job done fill steering fluid up to cold mark. start car for 2-3 secs n turn of. repeat until fluid level stops droping. then start n let run as u turn steering full lock left to right a few times. turn of n check fluid levels. enjoy your ride. if u succeed you with have a sore back but beats a emty wallet! all up this cost me $250 for new mitsubishi starter n $6 for steer fluid. good luck hope this may help.
