    Default Changing Odometer reading

Anyone know how to change the odometer reading?

I am upgrading my dash cluster on a VX II from one window to three window.
Another post mentioned that it can be done (with something other than a Tech2).

    Cheers,

    JG

hey bro i did it to my car last week it was only plug and play except the PRND321 indicators didn't work for . i didn't change the odometer coz holden wont do it for me and if u wanna do it at any auto electrition will charge 200$ that's why i left it the same.
my car done 150000km and the new cluster bought from wreckers for only 50$ and 71000km on it. so am happy with that it was takem from a vx berlina.

i don't care bout RTA bro coz they don't check for odometer at all. the only problem you'll face is when u sell the car.

with clusters as far as i know you can only wind (yes i know there digital) them forward not backwards eg. 30,000km to 115,000km but cant go 115,00km to 30,000km an i think you need a tech2 ???

is there a globe to light it up? cause that car might never have supported that option?

So your vx is a lower series? This prnd321 cluster feature doesn't work because you have the wrong engine harness. If you look at the harness where it plugs into the selecter mechanism on the passenger side of the gearbox, you will have just one plug in the harness actually connected. You will notice though that the gearbox will have an additional plug provision here that is blocked with a blue cover. This is the plug which controls this feature. You can add this one of two ways. Replace your harness with one from a higher model such as a calais or berlina etc. just needs to have two plugs here for the gearbox. This is plug and play and it will work. The other method would be to source just this plug with a short length of wiring attached and run your own wires connected to this back into the cabin. You'll need a vx pcm wiring diagram though to work out the pinout arrangement i.e. where in the pcm plugs you add your new wires.
    Hope that helps.

Out of curiosity, what does Holden charge for a 3 window cluster for VT - VX?

The cluster I bought has 260XXX ms on it while my car only has 165XXX kms.

Is it easy enough to swap back before re-registering/selling the car?
(I guess I will know after doing the first swap).

I believe the cluster has to be set for the number of air bags (1 for me), traction control (no) and ABS for it to all work perfectly.

I will check with Holden how much taht costs.

Not entirely true u'll need 2 also get other things calibrated 2 suit main 1 id b worried about is gettin the pre tensioners reset coz if they dont work wen u have an accident and they find the cluster has been changed u can void ur insurance.

Dr Bob on these forums can do them $150 he charged 2 do mine which is well worth the money.

When you buy a car you should never trust the odometer anyway unless you can see the service history. It's very common practice for people nowadays to swap clusters with lower klms when selling and ebay doesn't help with that either as they are very easy to source. I've seen people sell cars with 50,000 on the clock but had obviously done over 200,000.

That's the buys fault for not spotting the difference between a 50k and 200k car... They should be letting someone else check if they cant spot that...

I agree but as I said unless you see the service records then don't believe the odometer

You will have an interesting time when your rego comes around. The odometer reading is recorded by the inspection station and entered by them onto the RTA mainframe, as a preventative measure against high-mileage cars being sold with false, much lower mileages on them. As soon as your "new" reading is recorded, the RTA computer will "flag" the discrepancy from the last rego reading and you won't get your rego renewed, unless you can prove that you have swapped the dash over. You would need to have your new panel "wound forward" to match the old one, before the next rego inspection, to avoid any problems at rego time.

    Good luck with that one.

OK, changed the cluster over yesterday. Only took about 1/2 hour, and most of that was spent trying to figure out how to remove the dash trim!

All works well (execpt the gear position indicator). But my air bag light is on. Need to get it re-set by Holden. Anybody know how much that will cost?

Also, is there any way of changing the displays? Currently I get the Odometer in the centre and average fuel used in the right window. Or I can select Distance to Empty in the centre and instant fuel used in the right window. But I would like to see the distance to empty in the middle and the average fuel used in the right window. Any way of changing this?

    Cheers

mate here is what you do if the airbag lights on coz i did happened to me so what you do is when the airbag lights is on take the negative battery off and wait for couple of seconds and then on again. switch car to the on position and wait if light come back then turn off agian for 3 or 4 times and there you go. bout the display am not sure if you can chnage the figures from left to right....

again mate don't go to Holden no need for that at all if the cluster was taken from same car as yours don't worry its plug and play. vt v6 to vx v6 clusters are all the same whether if the cluster is 1 window or triple. the problem will start if it was taken from a v8 then its time to visit holdem to recalibrate everything .

no they rnt each model is different and have different calibrations and settings, VT's have a different PCB lay out from the VX's also. Some later VTs did get VX clusters in them aswell, think u need 2 do a lil more research..... no offence.

    So how do I tell?

I was told my cluster came from a VT/ It all seems to work OK. I checked the speed against a GPS and it seems accurate (indicated 115 k/mh when the GPS said 110).

Fuel consumption also seems right (still on my first tank full) and RPM also.
    Still have to check odometer.

    Thanks for the advice.
