im getting a weird, ticking sort of noise that goes with the rpm of the engine, as in, the harder/faster i accelerate the louder/faster the noise gets. at first i thought it was coming from the gearbox or there abouts, but after checking the noise out some more it seems to be coming from somewhere on the passenger side, particularly down low on the passenger side. has anyone had this before? i was thinking maybe something related to the exhaust/headers or something, but i dunno what are your thoughts?
Does it do it when you rev the engine when its in neutral ? also when you drive it does the noise change when you change gear or does it just get faster ? If it doesn't do it when you rev it out of gear then it could be a front wheel bearing .
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
VTs were had an issue where it was very common to crack the passenger sides exhaust manifold, used to have people coming all the time wanting that sides manifold where i used to work
Take a vid mate, could be anything without hearing it..
was there any specific area it would happen to?
i tried to record it on my phone but its real hard to make out. doesnt change sounds with gear changes just with the rpm of the engine. i havent paid attention when its neutral though tbh, ill have to suss that out when i get the car out today.
does it sound like this? YouTube - ‪P1000786.MOV‬‏
nahh not like that hey. its a heaps softer noise then that hey. and you cant hear it at idle like that either. i tried to record it whilst driving but the shitty phone seemed to be over run by the engine.
is it only doing it when your driving ?
a hole or crack or a broken stud on exhaust manifold can make a ticking or tapping sound...usually the passenger side exhaust manifold. check all the exhaust manifold studs (the one that connects the manifold to cylinder head) especially the last stud near the firewall.
I have a sound coming from the passenger side too, but I have Pacemaker extractors, have checked and changer the exhaust gaskets, and have checked the EGR pipe. Still there.
