i have just finished adjusting my wifes handbrake on her v6 vx, i undid the nut in the car then adjusted the shoes untill the disc could just fit back on, the problem i have is how tight is the handbrake ment to be? should you be able to put it in drive and move the car? i parked it on a hill and the handbrake holds
just wondering how tight it is ment to hold when your in drive?

Don't know about trying to test it in drive, but the handle should pull up around 4-5 clicks when handbrake is adjusted properly.
I don't think it would go anywhere in drive if it's adjusted right.

I'd think if you were able to get the disc back on after adjusting you'd be right. But you can double check by jacking the rear wheels, hand brake off, trans into N and check if there's any drag.

You should be able to apply some accelerator and have the park brake hold the car.

It's better to back the cable adjustment off inside the car, adjust the shoes (is it still "shoes" when it's one piece?) inside the disc to give a light drag, then go back and adjust the cable so as to have no free play.

I would consider 4-5 clicks as too tight. Maybe 7?

Cheap6's method is the correct way to adjust the handbrake.

4-5 clicks is about right, can go to 6 if you wanted.

I'll allow 6-7 . As long as it holds the car, looser is better.
