hey all, just serviced my trans on a vt 5ltr, I have only put in 1 1/2 litres of trans oil and the reading on the dip stick reads full. i just drained out min 4 litres from it. how much should the trans hold??
I cant help with the capacity sorry (from memory approx 5lt???) but 1.5lt is certainly nowhere near enough! To get a correct reading you cant just fill it up and check the dipstick. You need to go all through the gears to get it pumping around.
To do this first start the car. Put your foot on the brake with it in park and then go to D. Do this for about 3 seconds and then go to 3, hold this for 3 seconds then go to 2 etc etc then work your way down and back up to P. Now check the oil level. If its low, add more. Remember you need to repeat this process each time you add more oil to it.
Hope that helps a little.
Cheers
in the max ellorys manual i have here, it says the vn auto is roughly 3.5 litres. it says
add 3.5 litres into the filler tube
run engine at idle speed unitl it reaches operating temp.
shift selector throughall positions then put it in P
switch off engine and insert the dipstick, remove immediatly and check the fluid,
it says the operation must be completed in 10 seconds of switching the engine off
But i have nfi if the gearbox is the same as the one in your vt
