Default VX - Steering wheel shaking (again)

    Hello all,

Situation: 2001 VX Equipe, stock, 45,000km (not a typo). Wheel shudder begins at about 100, but is intermittent. More likely to happen if road surface is very rough aggregate or very smooth ashphalt. Happens maybe 15% of a highway trip, and when happens is slight to mild. Wheels blanced and aligned, front radius bushes not leaking. Car just out of used car warranty. Tyres only 5000km old, wheels undamaged. Can particular road surfaces set up a resonance in steering system, causing the vibration? Alternatively, is this completely normal? Could, say, the shocks be gone? the steering rack? I hope not.......

I have done a few k work on my suspension, but I had something similar. My tie rods ends were cactus, and the inner control arms. After the tie rod ends were replaced the shake stopped @100kph. Doing the inner control arms now with the rack and power steering pump...

It could be Shocks, caster bushes, or a tie rod end.

This is the sort of stuff that happens when the kids get into Dads tool box over weekend.

I have the same prob with the VY. I have new bushes right throughout the front end. Has recently had a wheelalignment, too.Tyres are 3-4 years old and never been re-balanced, so hopefully new tyres and a balance will stop the shudder.

try jacking up front of car and grab wheels and rock as if turning left and right and look for anything that is loose tie-rods or rack ends rack mounting bolts
warped disc? is it noticeably worse when light braking?
wheel balance? try swapping wheels front to back and test drive
