hi, i have a 99 vt ss 5.0 v8, the other day the battery died for no reason, left nothing on, anyways jump started it allgood, untill 5 mins later, smoke, the main wire going into the back of the alternator was fried!, any ways car was still running fine etc and did so for another 5 starts or so,
so anyway alternatoir was dead so changed the alternator for a brand new one, complete new cable from battery to alternator( blanked off and bypassed the old one), and new battery, all fitted today, went to turn the key - no power at all-to anything no lights- no nothing, all main fuses are ok, battery fully charged etc,
i hope to god i havent somehow fried the computers, any info would greatly be appreciated, cheers
Check your fusible links - small panel under the fuse box on the driver's side. Note that the 60 amp Main fusible link is held in by a bolt that needs to be removed before you can slide out the link. The other links are plug-in type with an inspection window.
Chaeck for dirty terminal connections at the battery terminals too
