Default New switchback LED's into my VX

Just put some switchback led globes into my VX today. Turned out pretty darn good. I had thought ahead and bought a new flasher relay which doesn't rely on any load, so I wouldn't get the hyperflash, however that relay didn't work

Anyways, check out the video see what everyone thinks. I didn't take any photo's yet, thought a video shows it better anyway .

yep exactly why i've done them. Not sure how bright they will be during the day, but I was envisioning DRL style light from them. The light pretty much goes straight ahead because the globe is still recessed into the indicator assembly of the light, which reflects all the light forward... if that's what you meant...

id just b concerned about the direction of the light coz those reflectors r designed 4 the indicators only that rnt a high wattage globe so it wont dazzle drivers ect.... but these might? it has nothing thats modified 4 the light spread

ahk I can see what you're meaning now. I've ot the altezza headlights in there though, so there is very little light to the side of the vehicle from the front indicators. Sure you can see the glow, so you know a light is in there, but that's the same as the normal headlights, you can see the glow on the lense, but it doesn't actually light anything up toward the side.. I'll get a photo later tonight to show you .

Does anyone know if changing the colour of your instrument cluster etc. is legal in SA? I want to get it done but don't wanna bother if it's gonna be defectable.

Here is a photo from dead side on with just the switchbacks on. You can see that there is very little light actually directed to the side of the vehicle, which is why I reckon I should be fine with police .

I would say that you can make it any colour you like as long as you can see it fine at night. A lot of new cars have blue dash lights, Hyundai for example.

Like with most things isn't it, just depends on the type of cop you get at the time.

I just tried taking photos then but it was a bit difficult with it being so dark and I was only using a point and shoot camera. I'll try tomorrow if I remember.

As for how I did it, I had to get new (well from the wreckers) indicator plugs that the globes clip into, and that then twist into the headlight. I gutted them, and then put in a new globe base for a 1157 globe, which is a dual circuit globe, much like brake lights that have two brightness levels.
I'll attach some photo's of the things I was working with. I didn't take many photo's whilst I was actually installing as I was figuring stuff out as I went along, and didn't have photo taking as one of the things on the list lol. But in the end, I did it fairly simply using a couple of relays and diodes .

The photo's are added to the original post so that it's easy for people to find.

do you think it was/is a requirement that when you have the white part on and u hit the indicator that the white part should go out? like, is the orange powerful enough that it would still show when the white part is on?

I don't think so mate.. I purposely made the white turn off when the orange turned on to keep it as 'standard looking' as possible, even though it flashes between white and orange.. I think having the white on with the orange will taint the colour of the orange and affect how noticeable it is..
