Hey everyone while im rebuilding the VX v6 engine i thought i might change the welsh plugs as well the person at Bursons told me there was only 2 different sizes and that there was 10 of them can any one confirm this????
Because when i went to take the old ones out today i can only find 9/10 and there seems to be 3 different sizes am i missing something for does the person at Bursons not telling the truth.. ???
Im pretty sure theres 2 in the heads, one at each end,and theres 2 at each side of the block and 2 at the rear of the block. That makes 10.
EDIT.Just looking at the workshop manual for the ecotec V6,and at the older buick V6,and the buick looks like it has 3 rear welch plugs behind the gearbox/transmission, but the ecotec doesnt look like it has these,it just has the rear alloy plate that also contains the rear main oil seal. .The larger middle welch plug at the rear on the buick is probably not for the cooling system,im not 100% sure on this though,Im only going off what I can see in the manual.

The ones i have found are the 2 big ones on each side of the block and 1 small one at each end of the heads and i can only find one really small one at the back of the block :S
I just went out and counted them on my s/charged v6 block (which should be about the same) and I only counted 9 as well.
1 on the front of the left head.
1 on the front of the right head.
1 on the back of the left head.
1 on the back of the right head.
1 on the back of the block right next to the left head.
2 on the left of the block.
2 on the right of the block.
Unless there is one behind the plate where the rear main seal is. I haven't removed mine yet.

Id go back and tell the guy at bursons to check if theres a difference between the buick V6 and the ecotec welch plug locations and numbers.Looking at the workshop manual, it looks like the buick does have 10 of them, but the ecotec doesnt have the rear ones where the alloy plate is.Id say the guy at bursons is thinking the ecotec is the same as the the buick engine.
Here are all the ones i can find

Yes this is correct for an ecotec block. There is actually 2 more, but there's generally no need to touch them as they dont block coolant passages. This is the 2 that block the main oil galleries at the front of the block behind the front timing cover. They're approx 15mm dia.
There is none in behind the alloy plate at the rear. The gasket used with this plate is what blocks the rear coolant passages.
Cheers
