Hey guys,
Need some help regarding my '01 VX s pack ---> I bought this car a week ago, there is a problem with it thats really annoying:
When I accelerate, it takes a while to kind of shift into gear or something, it kind of "lags" til it hits 50kms.... then every 5 or so kms after that it feels like it's choking or lagging to get to a higher speed... if that makes sense.
And just now, I was driving it, and the "low Trac" light came on for about 3 secs and was gone?
Before I take it to a mechanic, can anyone tell me what it might be?
Could it be the transmission slipping or something like that?
Please help, it's really annoying me, and its a VX Commodore V6, it shouldn't go like a granny car :-( lol
Cheers!
Ps: Its an auto.
hey i have the same problem in my 1999 vt and yes it is annoying
LOL..... but "HIM" is a "HER" :-P
And yeah, Dylan, it's really annoying aye?....I read on this forum, it might help if a wire or something is disconnected to turn Traction off permanently... but I wont do anything til someone on here gives me some advice lol.
lol... no worries.... can you atleast answer my question though? loool
The choking and lagging sounds like it could be a missfire (hard to know without driving it) and changing plugs and leads should fix it.
Whenever you get a new car of that age I think its important to do the basics, like oil, air filter, fuel filter, plugs and leads, Transmission service and injectors cleaned, since you don't know its history.
does the VX Spac have traction control? if its throwing up "low trac" says to me that it thinks its losing traction and the controller is kicking in to reduce wheel spin (reducing power) so id check your fault codes first, theres a thread about it somewhere, just do a search on fault codes first, then let us know what you find, id be guessing its just a sensor stuffing up...

Ooh.. thanks for that guys... much appreciated :-)
Yeah I will get everything serviced just to be on the safe side, it's just that $$$ is a bit tight right now....
But I did turn Trac off earlier, and it seemed to go really smooth now!?!? weird... why on earth would they even have a trac that slows the car down in the first place, seriously!?!?
I had two VT's once, and they both did the same thing, changed the fuel pumps and they worked fine...
Had a VS also, did the same thing, just did some flushing, and worked fine :-\
Hubby had a ford courier ute, also did the same thing, he changed some leads and that helped.... jeez, it could be a million things 8-| such a head ache!!!
ever only had problems with the commodores.... what a shame!
did own a hyundai before the VX, and the piece of 2005 crap accelerated on its own all the way upto almost 130kms down the tulla freeway and wouldnt brake LOL had to turn it off while still driving!
Yes, I've had the Sh**est luck with cars!! LOL
PS: does anyone know of a great mechanic around the northern suburbs of melbourne that specialises in commodores? most i know are crap and think this kind of stuff is normal 8-|
traction control reduces engine power to attempt to stop the wheels from spinning. so when you turn traction control OFF, it stops the ECU from reducing power (or lagging as you call it) its free to check your fault codes, or if you dont have one, the price of a box of paperclips, to link the connections of the diagnostic connector. in fact, heres a link.
"search function" and Google are your friends.
