My p plater sense is tingling...still school holidays or something?
Well unless your vt is a drag or burnout car which you should have stated then it's a major fail lol
its so he can sound cool while turning at the maccas car park
lets be fair guys, lets actually explain why they are fail.
currently your diff spins seperately. this is because when you take a corner, the inside wheel moves a lesser distance then the outer wheel, yeah? essentially a minispool "locks" the diff, causing both wheels to move at the same speed, all the time. this is awesome for ripping skids (no single peggers) and racing, but is considerably less awesome for legal street use. when you take a corner with a minispool, the inside wheel is moving at the same speed as the outside wheel. this causes the inside wheel to attempt to move laterally, causing broken axles, extreme tyre wear, etc. it also causes the worlds gayest sound when cornering at low speeds, and EVERYONE will hear it and stare at you like you are a douche. minispools also leave the car virtually undriveable in the wet to the untrained driver, there will be no letting your missus's cat drive. the car will constantly slide around every corner, it is just an accident waiting to happen. cops will also have a field day tinting your windows a nice shade of yellow if they catch you with one, and its not like you can hide losing traction around every corner.
anything else i missed boys?
Nah man, think you covered it all![]()
oh, just get a tight LSD. works a lot better, fill it with some 3:9's or something and you can have plenty of fun.
Okay here goes...
Ins (aka "Pros"):
1. Even tyre wear on the rear for both tyres
2. Two black lines for every power skid
3. Can show off sideways skills with ease (especially in the wet around corners and from take off at the lights where it is greasiest)
4. Most cost effective way to provide power to both rear wheels when competing at the drag strip
5. Your mates might think you're awesome and your car is better than "Joe Bloes Fard Fulcun turbo rotary V8"
6. If you have money to burn then it will transform your car into a "fun machine" when in skillful hands.
Outs (aka "Cons")
1. Rear tyres will last 1000 kms or 2 months (approximately depending on car use during the week)
2. Doing a power skid in front of the cop station is risky and you never know if the cops are watching or if a member of the public will dob you in.
3. Going sideways can result in a crash or busting some parts. Also refer to "Outs no.1".
4. Not really worth it if drag racing is not on the cards and you'll bust parts that may keep you sidelined for a few hours or stuck at a busy intersection in peak hour traffic & p!ssing other drivers off.
5. Your mates might boo at you for the illegal and dangerous reasons mentioned. Can you live with your car being defected/impounded and then targeted by the boys in blue in the coming years?
6. You spend the money on the installation and then keep spending money on tyres/fines/defects/busted parts/impound fees/court appearances/insurance excess and then more dosh in having the spool removed and installing a tight LSD that is legal.
If you really want a mini-spool then just do it and make up your own mind if this is something you like and suits your driving style. Best of luck.
PS. Doing skids/burnouts/wheelies on public roads is dangerous and illegal. It also hurts the drag racing image that we are already struggling with improving. Please go to a controlled environment where you (and others) can enjoy your car without harming yourself or others.
thank you to the serious answers to the rest its for a drag car putting out ruffly 300 hp and i keep hurting lsd's and i didnt have to say what it was. i simply asked if anybody had tips on installing them.wankers.
how are you hurting lsd's with 300hp?
you might not "have to", but its easier to give a bit more detail when asking about mods that arent road legal on this forum. everyone assumes you're putting it on a road going car, seeing as most people that post on here are posting about their road going cars.
ps. no need to call people wankers. your question was a little vague, try being a bit more descriptive next time.
I suggest to rip out as much weight as feasible out of the VT as they are fairly heavy and go with a full spool with beefed axles. I'll assume that you have 300 rwhp as 300 fwhp shouldn't dust a well set up LSD before 200 passes down the black top. The standard diff is good for 400 fwhp and should cope with 500 fwhp if not abused. Also replacing the "street/factory" ring and pinion gears with a "soft metal/drag" ring and pinion set is a good choice if this will be a dedicated drag car that will be trailered to the track. Enjoy.
i would of thought an LSD would be better off than a standard diff with a minispool. plus if its a dragcar wouldnt you want to spend the extra money so it will perform better??

had my spool in my vt for about 6 months now. going great.
tip- fcks out ur subframe bush easy too....
Unless you have something that flys past the eye and the speed of light it's worthless on the road.
You missed car parks are a nightmare, parking a truck in a carpark would be as easy.. i only drove one car that had mini spool, VN Calais V8. make sure the teeth are real or the false ones might pop out on cornering.
