guys i wanna install new ignition leads on my car , here i attached a copy from a GM service manual on how to but there is something i don't understand about it is when they say(When reinstalling plug leads, route leads correctly and through the proper retainers. Failure to route the leads correctly can result in the lead/s chaffing, burning, or causing cross firing of the plugs or shorting of the leads to ground.)
what do they mean by route leads correctly through proper retainers...
thanks in advance.....
put the in the corect little plastic clip that holds them in place so the dont cross over another lead there is a picture of the clip in the top pic that you put up. well thats my understanding.
well thanks for replying mate....
OK but what bout the 3 leads that goes under the alternator, they all are in a plastic tube nothing is separating them at all...
you know what am saying mate,,,,,,,if the service manual saying that you must route leads correctly and through the proper retainers in-order to avoid chaffing, burning, or causing cross firing of the plugs.... so what bout the 6-4-2 plugs that goes under the alternator and nothing is separating them....

really strange
All its saying is make sure the timing order is right, ie correct lead on the correct plug and keep the lead away (as much as possible) from direct heat sources.
The biggest issue with leads is that the silicone core will break over time and when it does, the spark strength becomes less as it has to jump the break in the core.
Hope that all makes sense. I wouldn't worry about it too much, just make sure you put them back where they were originally.
your absolutely right mate, Holden admitted that there was an issue with the firing order it was totally wrong and with the ignition system as-well.the engine was suffering from a permanent vibration at the beginning...... really the v6 ecotec is a flawless creations BUT what did actually kills these engines is the crappy head gasket and the way the leads plugs in...
i never put the black stuff back over the leads, i just left them and they worked fine. never had a problem

Remove alternator and you can easily remove and install the leads through the black conduit. It is a good idea to keep them within this conduit as they will rub on the engine and could stuff the leads' insulation.
As for running them together and having potential spark jump- bullshit, unless the insulation was stuffed which it won't be if they are new leads and are run within the conduit.
