.got a new windscreen
.went to pick the car up and the car would not start because of immobilizer/keyproblems
.NRMA suggested i tow it somewhere but instead i paid an auto electrician $80 change the fuse from {Engine sensor}and car started so i could get home.
.now doors will not lock, immobilizer light isn't on and key buttons don't work
. Auto electrician told me to get a new key and I paid $80 for a spare key which made no difference
.................................... can anyone pinpoint this problem which my missers is hassling me to fix but i'm worried about the price?
It sounds like you need to take it to someone (holden?) who has the proper scantool that can access the BCM (Body Control Module)or body computer,it controls the door locks, the immobiliser, and key buttons etc.It will give an error code simialr to the ECU codes, which should help point you to whats wrong with it.
I had a problem with my vt ss where the remote looking (key buttons) wouldnt work and the electric windows stopped working, 5 different mechanics including holden told me that more than likely it was going to be the bcm but it turned out to be a blown fuse located under the steering wheel simple fix get a test lamp an check your fuses!
hey peter. its pretty easy to check all the fuses yourself. at 80 buck to change a fuse i would suggest you do that before you see an auto electrician again. unclip the panel under the steering wheel from the top (just under the steering column). youlle see the fuseboard. pull the fuses out ONE at a time and hold them up to a bright light. you should be able to see the wire broken if its blown. on the panel you open to acces the boeard there should be a list of what fuses are what. look at the ones related to you issue first. for example, any that indicate they are to do with the bcm or immobiliser. probably wouldnt hurt to check all of them. just make sure you dont put the wrong one back, doing them one at a time will prevent this happening. if you find any blown ones, go to supercheap and get a blisterpack for a few bucks and replace them. hopefully that would sort you out. if not, at least you know u have checked the obvious.
yeah check the codes too. the plug is under the panell u lift down for the fuse board. if you search "how to error codes" you should get the thread on here that tells you how to do it. its easy as, and usually very helpfull in indicating the problem
