I got a VX S V6 Manual 2000 model with 125+ks and i'm planning to replace my clutch kit in the next 2 weeks. it will be the first time to replace it so still factory for sure, but i'm not sure if i have a dual mass flywheel or just a standard one.
can somebody please tell me if this is right? this is according to sutton holden dealership:
thanks for your enquiry.
The dual mass flywheel only came into production in the VZ series commodores which were around 2004, the VX was a standard flywheel which can be machined.
I have quoted on a VX 2002 Commodore for your reference.
The VX V6 Clutch kit is $1455.00 inc GST Supplied and fitted by our Suttons Holden Dealership.
This includes the Clutch Disc, Cover and Pressure Plate, release bearing and fitting. The flywheel is an additional cost however in most instances your original flywheel can usually be machined.
Should you have any further enquiries please don’t hesitate to contact me.

thanks in advance.
Mate I own a VT s-pack ( 1999 ) v6 5-speed with a getrag gearbox and it had a duelmass flywheel and I'm near certain all manual v6 commodores from VT up had them, they can't be machined but can be converted to a standard flywheel and clutch easily
And excedy clutch kit ( flywheel and clutch ) coated me $990 at trade price and I fitted it myself
That price sounds like a duel mass setup cause that's how much it was going to cost me to get one
The only downside to a standard flywheel is that when you take off there is a bit of a drive line rattle but that is it, nothing to worry about or shed tears over
Hope this helps
Thanks mate for your reply...that's what i believed that it has a DMF, but that guy from holden dealership got me confused when i ask for a quote. i just wanna make sure before i buy the parts, and yeah i still wanted the DMF setup as i don't like any rattle in the car. And is it hard to fit it myself? thanks again and regards.

Unless its been converted by a previous owner, your vx would have left the factory with a dual mass flywheel as you suspected. This is applicable to getrag gearbox's from series 2 VS onwards. As above a dual mass flywheel should NOT ever be machined.
You may be able to get away with just a standard clutch kit (i.e. clutch plate, pressure plate, thrust race and spigot bush) and not need the flywheel as it may still be servicable. Assuming its not warped or has heat spots, the service limit is 20mm of rotational free play.

But by the chance that the clutch is rooted then the flywheel is more then surely full of hot spots, mine looked horrible
Mate there not too hard to replace hey, I'd get a workshop manual, they make life so much easier, if you got a basic mechanical knowledge it's pretty easy. Should take about 3-4 hours if hook in
The flywheel and clutch will be around $1400, but IMO your better off converting, cheaper, can be machined, can have a heavier clutch put behind it
pretty sure it hasn't been converted or replaced 'coz i bought it brand new in year 2001, and everything still stock as. i actually haven't inspected the clutch internally, and still doesn't slip, it's just that it feels heavy now to drive it...especially when the car is running for more than 1 hr already. and when i switch off the ignition after driving for more than 30mins i can hear a rattling or clanking noise from the transmission. you reckon the clutch is rooted? by the way the car is 125+ks already.
thanks mate!
Nah if there is no slip your going well
That noise could be 1 of the bearings, either the bearing the input shaft goes in or the thrust bearing, is there a noise at idle from the gearbox ?
no mate, no noise from the gearbox or transmission when idle. but what about that heavy feeling when accelerating when its running for more than an hour already? and i forgot to mention, last weekend when i get home and switch off the car, then i tried to pump the clutch there was a creeking sound coming from the transmission everytime i depress the pedal...pretty sure it's not coming from the pedal but i can hear it from under the car. then after a few hours i went back to the car and check it again and the noise when i depress it is gone.
might as well do the spigot bush as well.
could be ur noise.. dmf are shit and for the crap drivers, go a single plate swap.......
