Recently had a cam installed, car feels and drives fine and goes hard sounds mean.........but when at about 2500rpm onwards it sounds noisey? like it has no oil, lifter noise? would it be the new hd valve springs, are they meant to be noisey,
or am i just being paranoid..
Oil levels are spot on, and changed every 5000k 10w 40 full synth. Any thoughts guys, any info would be greatly appreciated.
kosta.
Changing the cam and fitting HD springs will increase valve train noise, as well as timing chain noise as there is now more load on the chain.
ahhh okay so pretty much normal engine noise then...
have you got an oil pressure gauge?
Yo man, used comp cams, lifters, rods, r/r, beehive springs ect, higher then norm lift/agression cam n ls2 t/chain and yes i got much higher then your normal valve train noise,(at first i did think it could have been low oil pressure because the way it sounded like your also suggesting but i had checked and absoloutly everything was fine), every specialist i took it to had said it was all good to expect there to be more noise then normal staock valvetrain noise,
In saying this before i build a couple of ls1's i really never had rebuilt a car motor before or beefed up the valvetrain so i was not use to the change in noise with different setups.
BUT i would suggest getting some experienced people to have a listen to it, and yes get your oil pressure checked ESpecially at those revs the niose comes in at.
i have recently changed my cam, springs etc and yes its a bit noisier but not that bad. did you install a double row timing chain? i would suggest buying and electrical oil pressure gauge to give you piece of mind as the oil light on the ls1 only comes on at around 8psi?? did you do the lifters?
Did you fit a double row chain? To fit them (double row chains) you need to bend/ move the pick up slightly which results in a loss in oil presure. When the pick up is moved it breaks the tight seal. You might want to re think the chain. Either way get the oil pressure checked.
hey guys yeah there was a double row timing chain installed, all the work was done a performance specialist, i didnt do the lifters as i fell abit short on cash, but its hard to explain it not over the top noise, just noisier than what it was, i think i should probably save to change the lifters, anyone know roughly how much supplied and fitted?
anyway im going to the place tommorow to get a slight adjustment done to the tune, il ask if they can have a look just to give me peace of mind.
keep it real, and keep it clean.
OK well ask them to put a gauge on the oil pressure. Better safe than sorry.
To change the lifters you need to take the heads off, so I would expect that it would cost you around $500-$800 depending on who did it and by the time you got gaskets, etc.
That said, most experts say there’s no need to change them. Are there are signs of wear on the cam you just took out? If not, I wouldn't bother changing them. But that’s just my opinion.
May also be a pushrod length issue.
