Default VT Acclaim Series 2 - Overheating Problem

    Hey all,

Been having some trouble with my commodore lately: Engine temp meter will sometimes freak out and push right up, making the little beep sound forcing me to stop my car, wherever I may be.

I let the car cool down for about 10 minutes before I put some water into it, which always works, but after having it serviced specifically to find what could be the fault, I'm a little worried when my mechanic (also a family friend) tells me he can't find a problem. He's run the pressure pump on there to find cracks and whatnot but still nothing.

I'm not sure whether or not the fact the car is often hitting the 3k rev mark is a problem or not. There's a slight problem with the transmission where it stays in first for a while and then crashes in to second (I drive Auto... about time I switched to Manual I think! haha)

About a week ago it overheated in peak hour morning traffic and I had to pull over and let it cool down, chuck some water in it and take it to the workshop. Mechanic put some sort of $15 liquid in the water intake, said it had wood fibers and stuff in it that would plug anything up when it hit air.

    So far so good.

But, has anyone else had trouble like this? I mean I expect to always have some sort of issue every now and then and be able to sort it out, but how often is it that you can't find a solution to the problem?

    Thanks!

if your car it losing water then there must be a leak. it could be a manafold gasket whitch can be hard to see also a water pump dose not always leak under pressuer worst cace it could be a blowen head gasket.

He ruled out blown head gasket straight away. I think I may just have to chuck some water in it every now and then to keep her happy haha

    Thanks for the replies

I never really read posts on this I just check prices and stuff, this happened to my VX a month back, same thing happened exactly, always overheating. Mechanic couldnt find anything wrong with it and also my rev's were way to high (auto too). I changed the heater tap whichw as cracked and leaking, still overheated, last week found out my radiator was rusted down the whole right side and ####ed, so you might wanna get that chcked out, cost me $290 alone for the radiator. Dont leave it too late and ####ed the whole car up mate!

I had the radiator looked but no issue there.

The problem turned out to be the throttle cable?!

Car runs like a dream now and no problems with overheating whatsoever. I figure it may have been more of a problem with the car constantly working harder due to pumping out higher revs, so the engine naturally gets hot. As for where that water's going... not sure but it's no longer an issue.

Any more details for this remedy, as I can't see how a throttle cable would make an engine overheat.

Unless the stop leaks finally blocked the hole somewhere

The only details I can give you are that I after the throttle cable was replaced, there hasn't been any issues with overheating at all. The car just runs so much better now as well. That is all I can tell you, I don't know anything else haha
