    Default The LS1 mission

    Hey guys,
i have a vt ss 5.7 commodore, with 230,000k`s . anyways im thinking of doing an exchange motor swap with the wreckers, can get another motor with under 150,000k`s for $1400 .
my motor has the annoying piston slap, sump leaking ,rear and front main seals pissin out oil. so thats why i was thinking of putting another motor in it but with the added : Cam, Valuves,Springs, roller rockers .
anyone else know of other things i should look at doing to the exchange motor when if i go ahead and get it?

As above, how much is it gonna cost to fix the problems you have??? better the devil you know i say, the other engine might have more problems than the engine you take out.

the mechanic quoted me around$600-$800 to fix all the leaks.
But with 230,000k`s on the car just not sure if it would be stable enough to handle a cam

do you know the service history of the ls1 you want to buy??? because a 230,000km engine that has been looked after is gonna be better that a 150,000km one that has been trashed an not looked after.

at least do a compression test and maybe get the mechanic to shove an endoscope down the bores

VZ GENUINE LS1 PISTON KIT (SUIT VT-VZ) + gaskets has got to be a lot cheaper than $1400. Plus there's no chance of ending up with a motor that's even worse than what you've already got.

Mate an LS1 is a strong motor, if your going to put a cam in the heads are going to have to come off anyway because you'll want to put some decent lifters in...

My Suggestion whip the motor out, rip the heads off and have a look at what your dealing with bore wise... forget rods and rockers waste of money, but your underestimating the cost involved when you start modifying things

    Sump $200 ish
VRS KIT $450 + depending on what you want
    Heads $180 - 450 ish

    Mod Costs:
    Cam $500-800
    Double Row Timing Chain: $150-200
    Comp Lifters: $400 ish
    Decent Manifold & Throttle body: $850 - 1200
Air intake upgrade over rad or something : $250- 500

Sundries, oil, filters, plugs, leads $400+

Mafless tune, Dyno really depends on where you go: $500 -1200

Someone do the sums ? :P

Then guess how much this owes me.... ‪VX CLUBSPORT LS1 YELLA TERRA WHIPPLE 2.9 BLOWER ( NON TUNED ), FIRST START‬‏ - YouTube In Action : ‪ClubSport Burnouts by Karl‬‏ - YouTube
