Default 5L VT 2.5 twin cat back sounds horrid!

Hey guys, this may sound a little dumb, but ive got a 5L vt ss and the only mod it has is a twin 2.5 inch cat back exhaust, which to me sounds HORRID! It makes the car sound like a grandma's v8, so quiet and soft. Anyways, is there anyway i can get it to sound tougher without going a complete exhaust system? Just dont have that much cash to spend right now.

I had the cat back muffler off it over the weekend to do some work (changing front uni) and thought hey why not just give it a start with the mufflers off. Personally, i think it sounded rad as! much louder and lumpier and more of a v8 growl. Id really like it to sound like that always, would it perhaps be that the cat back exhaust on it is just crap? or should it sound better then that?

Just pull the muffler out and stick another one in?

mine has a twin 2.5" system (vid posted in my thread - see sig).
has extractors etc too but yeah, should growl a bit.

Also double check the cats. Mine were flogged out and sounded like balls, hence putting new ones in.

yours sounds louder to me on that video mirkz. mine sounds alright when you get the revs up, but down low and at idle it sounds like crap. no resi in it either so the drone makes it sound almost like a v6 (in the car anyway). i hear a few ls1's go past my house every now and then and it makes me want to cry at how much tougher they sound lol a lot of people say the 304 sounds better but mine sounds like a nan's car.

i had recorded a quick clip when i had the muffler off just to make myself feel a bit better about how it could sound haha

personally i think this sounds mean as (ignore my stupid facial expressions) it sounds no where near this tough with the mufflers on.

Has the car got mufflers front and back? I would like to get 2.5 twin pipes..
New straight through mufflers might be the answer.?.

off the top of my head i cant recall noticing front mufflers, but i could be wrong. i know the system is stock aside from the cat back. what do you reckon straight through mufflers would be worth mate?

Depends on the system you have. Some do sound like shit, especially X Force. Supercat have the same design and don't sound that good either. See if yours has an X type merge section just after the cats.

Fitting extractors and high flow cats as well as having no rear resonator makes the 5.0L sound pretty good.

Yes mate, $550 shipped for the VT 5.0L extractors. Add $390 for a pair of 200cpsi metal high flow cats.

I have a mate with a VS S Pack ute 5L and his only mod is a 2.5 exhaust he said had a mechanic punch a hole through his cat convertor and it sounds better than my 5L clubby with two cats into i 3 inch exhuast lol mine needs work though, but the moral of the story is "lumpy sound" can cost stuff all... (if that's all you want)
