Hey guys im replacing all the bushes on the front of my VT BUT i have come to a problem and the problem is the inner control arm bushes..... do i get them pressed out or not i mean i got all the other bushes virtually done in 45minutes then i get to the inner control arm bush and get stuck on the pin. i refuse to pay $253 to get 2 bushes done so if anyone knows of an easier way or of any way to get it done id be happy to hear about it.
Also i came across a bolt near the ball joint just behind the wheel hub its as loose as all buggery it wont tighten and it wont loosen no matter what you do it moves the entire thing around not just the bolt any ideas on what it is for (i have checked the opposite side and the other side is tight not loose) feels like it is connected to a pin or plate or something i cant get a good look at. I am thinking of replacing the balljoint on the passanger side as thats where the problem is but if anyone knows what it is and a way to fix it again im open to suggestions lol.
I took my lower control arms and the new bushes in to my mechanic. He pressed the old ones out and fitted the new ones for me for $10 a bush.
You can possibly hacksaw the ends of the bushes off and then drill some holes through the rubber bush to weaken it, then press them out with a clamp and large socket or something but this is a major pain in my opinion and not really worth the trouble when places don't charge a whole lot to quickly press them out.
Where abouts are you located then cause like I said pedders wants 253 I ain't paying that not when I've done all the work
Sorry should've said where's your mechanic located
How to Replace Control Arm inner bush - Superpro there you go mate, if you are putting nolathane or other two piece bushes back in you won't need to get them pressed in by a suspension shop. As for the ball joint on the end of control arm, that nut should be tight! Get a replacement one. The nut is screwed onto the ball joint, similar to one on end of steering rack.
Haven't read the above solution, but from memory what I did last time I greased up the new bushes, lined them up, held a plank over it to keep it stable and hit it with a hammer. Seems very cave man-ish, I know, but it works incredibly well. Can't remember if it was a VT though.
by the way how did you remove the outer control arm bushes? i think theyre called radius rod to control arm bushes??
to be perfectly honest as soon as i undid the bolt it just popped out, the bushes were pretty buggered like warpped hard instead of circular they we more like oval wave looking bush
