Hey peeps, just wondering if anyone can help me with a big decision... I want to fit a big cam to my vt clubby but I've heard the 5L's are too costly or too much work and that I might as well just bolt a blower on it, I want more power yes, but the bottom line is I want a lumpy beast of a clubby with heaps of power, I already know that a 5.7 would of been the better choice but I chose the 5L. And I like my car.. Please Help me make my car as though it was shat out of hell!

Hey well not sure what your budget is but in all honest the 5L sounds tough as with good exhaust, if you want lumpy the cam will do it, but yes kinda not really value for money.
Heaps of power, well that depends on your idea, you should rebuild and do a stroker maybe it costs you 10K or more, then say hello to driveline issues
lumpy cam is a completely different kettle of fish to a blower. i advise you do some research first before asking questions
Oh Really? well research also involves asking questions, which is why I chose to research it right here on just commodores dot com, thought it made sense seeing as everybody on here has one.
Anyway... I called up a place they asked me if i wanted a big or small cam... I read on here a long time ago that the 5L's can loose power or something with big cams i asked them and they don't seem to like sharing knowledge
Crane 286 and a custom tune works well in the 5ltr. Should make around 200rwkw with that combo
Umm maybe research prices first.
Cam 3-4k blower 10k+
Also what do you think is heaps of power, a cammed 5L isn't much, a blown 5l is decent.
And blown 7 litre = a grin on your face that can never be removed.
If heaps of power is your aim *flame suit on* you should get an LS1. 300kw is easy.
LS7,Whipple blower & 16lb of boost-FTW

A cam that's too big will have no power down low and feel like a slug around the streets, although will be a weapon down the 1/4.
You would be lucky to push 250kw out of a 5L, will get 300kw with an LS1 and can even get around 350kw cam only from an LS3.
or just save up and get a v6
Save up for a downgrade? I don't get it
I gotta a quote over the phone for about 7k for the lot I dunno if that's even worrth doing and they said the LS1's are only for 5.7's
VT V6 fitted with DMS gold 40mm coilovers, Whiteline adjustable swaybars & strut brace, 330mm AP racing brakes, Rebuilt 3.45:1 LSD and a Powerdyne supercharger

We'll since your the expert why don't you tell me why a V6 is a better choice
It's called "trolling". He's trying to get a reaction from you, everyone knows 5L are better.
To be honest going the LS1 route, you'd be better off just selling and buying a car with one already.
If you keep the 5L, mild cam, exhaust, intake etc, and DON'T get caught up in dyno figures. It's how it feels on the street.
Yeah looks that way, so is what he quoted me the mild cam? it was 2,500 and he said it wasn't LS1
Also if i go mild will i still need a hi stall?
Find out the cam's grind, ie. 224/228 112LSA. I'm not too sure about 5L's
Most small cams don't need a hi stall, but they benifit from them anyway. Large ones will need a hi stall.
